There was a brief period of transparency in early 2020, when several batches of defective kits were distributed, discovered to be faulty, and reportedly discarded. Should we then determine that this brief period of transparency means that there are no longer defective test kits being distributed today?

What about the two scientists jailed in Australia because they were using a different method of testing producing a reduced rate of positives compared to another method that results in more positives? Did they jail these two research scientists because they brought into question the validity of the approved test kits that find more positives? Were they jailed because the process they used targeted only the novel coronavirus and didn’t pick up false positives so had higher (more exact) threshold for positive result?
