If I connect to the internet through a network at my work, is there any way for me to control/change my ip address??

depends on what hardware you have at your work. If you are going through a router that is assigning IP addresses via DHCP, then most likely not. If it is assigning static IP addresses, then definitely not. Either way, your IP address on the outside will not change at all.
