Sanders Seizes Lead in Volatile Iowa Race, Times Poll Finds

DES MOINES — Senator Bernie Sanders has opened up a lead in Iowa just over a week before the Democratic caucuses, consolidating support from liberals and benefiting from divisions among more moderate presidential candidates who are clustered behind him, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll of likely caucusgoers.

Mr. Sanders has gained six points since the last Times-Siena survey, in late October, and is now capturing 25 percent of the vote in Iowa. Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Ind., and former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. have remained stagnant since the fall, with Mr. Buttigieg capturing 18 percent and Mr. Biden 17 percent.

The rise of Mr. Sanders has come at the expense of his fellow progressive, Senator Elizabeth Warren: she dropped from 22 percent in the October poll, enough to lead the field, to 15 percent in this survey. Senator Amy Klobuchar, who is garnering 8 percent, is the only other candidate approaching double digits.

The changing fortunes of the leading candidates underscores the volatile nature of the primary after more than a year of campaigning, as voters wrestle with which candidate can defeat President Trump. Despite the ascent of Mr. Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist(Communist), the poll also highlighted the combined appeal of the centrists: 55 percent of those surveyed said they preferred a standard-bearer who is “more moderate than most Democrats.” Just 38 percent said they wanted one who is “more liberal than most Democrats.”

I think Iowa people are good. Their problem is that they are being forced to pick from a bunch of rejects. And of course there is always the usual Democrat meddling to assure they nominate the candidate they want. In reality, this nominating process is as crooked as the impeachment and removal Democrats are attempting. In the end, the D party will install Bloomberg as their candidate but it will be late in the process to prevent him from having too much time to expose his insanity. Democrats are a threat to the American dream.

Seems most of the violence and anger that is happening at political events these days is being caused by Bernie supporters. Bernie refuses to take responsibility for any of it.....simply claiming this is what happens in politics.

Course even when Trump isn't even remotely responsible for this....somehow he gets the blame. A Bernie campaign worker kills a bunch of people with a gun....it's Trump's fault of course. A Bernie supporter shoots a bunch of Republicans....and it's nobody's fault.....cept maybe Trump for causing fear and anger in the population.

Bernie claims he's against violence.......however.....Bernie's rhetoric doesn't match his claims. He has a tendency to create anger against a target....which often leads to violence:

So which one is not a commie?
Remember these polls are all fakes. Majority of Iowans support Pres.Trump. And the ones that attends the Dems' rallies are being paid or been offered a free meal just to come.

I hope Sanders win the nomination and become President and then watch the next four years of why you never elect a Socialist like Sanders and I hope he take Warren as his VP...

I think alot of the polls are driven by media coverage.

I also think it's BS that Bernie doesn't get any of the blame for the violence his campaign is causing.....

“Righteous anger” is a theme at virtually every Sanders campaign event. At a rally held on a chilly January day in the basement of Iowa City’s The Graduate Hotel, Sanders and his allies talked about the urgency of climate change. He described Australia burning and, taking care not to sound “too alarmist,” argued that what’s happening there will spread all over the planet if we fail to act.

“If we do not get our act together with a fierce sense of urgency—and let me underline fierce sense of urgency,” Sanders tells the crowd, “we will see in coming years more floods, more drought, more devastating wildfires, more famine, more rising sea levels, more ocean acidification, more extreme weather disturbances, more disease, more human suffering.”

Not exactly a cheerful message. But this we-must-do-better attitude suffuses Sanders’ entire political philosophy. He supports Medicare for All, because you shouldn’t have to refuse an ambulance if you can’t afford it. You “have a right to be angry,” because you’re living paycheck to paycheck while the richest Americans see their net worth skyrocket. There is no time. Something must be done now. This is unfair. This is wrong. These are refrains for all of the issues Sanders focuses on, validating the dissatisfaction so many feel.

Buttplug is #2?

Bernie won't give the veep spot to Shitting Bull, so if the party bosses don't figure out a way to scuttle him, my guess is he choses Klobuchar as his running mate.

We said the same thing about Obama...and look what has happened.

Yeah, well let be clear eight years of Clinton gave us Bush... eight years of Bush gave us Obama... eight years of Obama gave us Trump...

So four years of Trump give us Sanders and I bet you will not realize my point is the American voter keep on going for the more crazier candidate every four years...

So screw it let go full commie and bring on Sanders...

I am sure after four years of him we will elect Rand Paul next!

A very possible scenario. If they do, the Bernie comrades will stay home en masse. This will hand Trump and his Americans an easy victory.

That's a plurality of Democrats. Not all of Iowa.

If you didn`t believe that Capitalism sucks you wouldn`t be worrying about Commies would you Vlad?
Only a true idiot would ask such a stupid question knowing that Bernie campaign workers are actually advocating opening
Mao-Leninist re-education camps for capitalists.

Whether this idea ever gets off the ground or not (it doesn't seem likely in a civilized nation) it shows the mind set of Bernie
backers. And it's frightening.

On the other hand I'm happy the democrat party is tearing itself in two.

Putin`s Pussies calling people commies is a real hoot. Give us some more of that stuff Vlad. :)

In all fairness to Iowa, it is some Dems who are supporting candidates such as Senators Sanders and Warren.

I assume , however, that the majority of Iowa voters will stand by President Trump in November.

They do not want their state to become like California or New York or Illinois.

They have a good thing going. Why would Iowans sacrifice it?

Maybe they see it as the lesser evil. The commie or the moron in the office currently. {Shrug}

The NYT might be able to find a gaggle of socialists but keep in mind that the Times had Hillary with a 92% chance of winning about two weeks before the election. The "old grey lady" has become a political prostitute.

Your Fearless clown President is far worse than any of our Democratic candidates. Go clean your AR-16. I'm sure you would like to use it for something. Go hunt clowns. Stop worrying about our candidates. You have enough corrupt individuals in the Republican Party. <---- Worry about them. You guys aren't saints by a long shot!

Did you ever believe you'd live to see Dimocrats of a heartland state choosing an out and out communist for their presidential nominee ? I sure didn't.
