Concussions and cognitive impairment for NFL players.

So here's the deal. The NFL acknowledged that the constant "butting of heads" that is a part of NFL football would likely harm the cognitive abilities of players over time, and they set up a fund to pay them some money if in later life it seems that their cognition has been impaired.

So since they could not retroactively test historical players and they had to baseline players in order to ascertain, in the future, whether they were impaired. It immediately became obvious that African American players' cognition was dramatically less than the "white" players IN THE BASELINE. Accordingly, they foresaw that in the future, ALL of the African American players would have lower cognitive abilities, and they would ALL qualify for compensation - even though they might be at the same level as when they started - no actual impairment.

So they established separate baselines, Black and "white." Logical, right? Then the Black players would have to show cognitive damage below their lower starting point.

Now we have two players - African American, of course - who say, "Wait a second! Here we are at 50 years old, and if we get the same score as a 'white' player, the 'white ' player is certified as impaired, and we are just OK, because we started out at a lower level. THIS AIN'T FAIR!"

But of course it is entirely fair. The system was "normalized" for Blacks because otherwise EVERY ONE OF THEM would appear to be impaired when their cognitive function was simply lower than the mean when they started.

Is this f*cked up or what?

It is the new normal. Rational thought is "racist."

I remember, years ago, the test for getting on a fire dept was changed because black people couldn't pass it-:oops: I don't know what became of the standards. That was way before the internet and message boards-

A thought comes to mind, though, that can't be changed. Life ain't fair.

You mean the no fan loyalty league, the corrupt cartel that allows the owners to give their long time loyal fans the middle finger and move at the drop of a dime and does not even get punished for not following the rules they made for NFL relocation.im tired of these criminal owners getting their way.
