A BAN on kissing in public in Indonesia has been strengthened, with violators now facing up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $42,590.
Unmarried couples are prohibited from cohabitation and authorities have the power to raid homes of those suspected of breaking the law under the code.
"As far as kissing (in public) or living together goes, these new laws go way too far," Indonesian women's rights activist Nursyahbani Katjasungkana said.
The ban extends to films, pictures and TV, meaning filming an on-screen kiss could be a criminal offence.
