For the historically challenged, the Declaration of Independence was itself a political act. It was done by 13 British colonies who, politically separated themselves form the Crown, and that day became 13 independent nation States. Each with all the political power that implied, they simultaneously entered into a mutual defense pact, to defend against what they saw as a certain British military action, to put down the rebellion. Each man that signed the Declaration of Independence pledged their fortunes, lives and sacred honor to this cause. To a man, all had much to lose. And they formed armies to enforce their will on the Crown and prevailed.

Since the successful separation form the Crown, virtually every politician that ever lived has joined Independence Day celebrations in their respective areas to politic and glad hand with their constituents.

Independence Day 2019 is no different, major Democrat candidates will be in Iowa tomorrow campaigning, the others will be somewhere they consider important to themselves. Few politicians of any stripe will spend a quite day with their families.

So remember, politics on Independence Day is as old as the country, 243 years. Enjoy your Independence Day and remember, if you go to your towns celebration you'll most likely be in the presence of many politicians.

The DoI was a notice to the World why the Colonies were SEVERING all relations with England for cause as enumerated in the document. To call it merely a "political act" is to simply contrive a set up for what followed in your post; Your preemptive apology and rationalization for Trump's politically motivated narcissistic electioneering on July 4th on the Mall, which is well and truly noted, Tex!

Your partisan propaganda can not alter that truth of Trump's grandstanding perfidy!

Trump is doing as many previous presidents have done and celebrate our victory over the royal crown. He is giving a much needed mention to those who keep us safe and allow us to have this celebration without fear from our nations enemies. For many years the left has beaten down, disparaged and derided those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, despite those who died and those who still live, who gave them and protected that right.

This isn't about Trump and I am tired of you lying bastards and your left wing hate America agenda. As a veteran, who has fought for this country, your kind make me sick!

Gabbard will be in New Hampshire campaigning, Biden is in a parade in Iowa. Politics and the fourth go hand in hand.

Your opinion is your right, but other people love the idea.

Had to keep it simple for morons like you. Funny how you can't see Independence Day has been reason for politicking form the beginning. Everyone does it.

No, no, if you light a fire cracker or dare cook a hot dog you are usurping freedom by supporting Trump.

the Declaration signees were all artistocrats , they only inspired 3% of the then populace to rebell.

the Sons of Liberty terrorized one farm after the next into compliance.

243 yrs later, they still rule, and do so for their own gain.

But we're supposed to raise flag, and pay homage to them today

And everyone of them put everything they had on the line to become free and independent.

The Aristo's inciting war usually survive at the expense of the tools ...but .....NOT the point .....

Look, the same d*mn fools on this forum looking for some 'civil war' , because they're convinced they've been had are targeting their 'liberal' neighbors

Which is contrived, controlled, packaged and sold by the very same factions that sold us the same story 243 yrs ago

They survive because most time the war isn't on their own soil, the founders didn't have that advantage.

The stories seem to be a bit convoluted but from what I see, a dozen of the signers died during the war, causes of death aren't totally clear, one had two sons captured and one had a son killed in action. Others died penniless after losing every thing during the war. Not what most think of as aristocrats.

Idiots have to even get their panties in a wad over the meaning of the 4th o July and the Declaration of Independence. Had they not done so America wouldn't have existed and we'd be a dang colony of England.

Boogles the mind the Class Warfare Psych in this country now that they would ditch the Founders of this country.

Hell and a hand basket is where this country is going.
