Impeached President trump Can’t Pardon Roger Stone

If the author of the article at the link below is correct, the Founders anticipated the exact scenario prosecutors and the trial judge currently face in the Roger Stone case.

Author Corey Brettschneider writes: “the framers knew not to place blind trust in the president to wield the power justly. That’s why they explicitly forbade a president from exercising the pardon power in “cases of impeachment.” The clause prevents the worst abuse of the pardon power: a president’s protecting cronies who have been convicted of crimes related to the president’s own wrongdoing.”

This is all well and good, but unfortunately, Moscow Mitch, the corrupt Republican senators whose sham verdict gave the impeached president trump a sham acquittal, and Chief Justice John Roberts have judged the impeached one to be unencumbered by constitutional restrictions. So, he can pardon Stone (or anyone else) by simple decree, and there is nothing or no one who can stop him.

As Dubya said of the U.S. Constitution, “It’s just a goddamn piece of paper”, so Moscow Mitch, congressional Republicans, the conservative Justices of the USSC, and the impeached president trump, himself, all feel free to use it to wipe their sh!tty a$$e$.

That only applies to not being able to pardon persons being impeached.

He wasn't convicted in the senate...I guess the writer of that garbage link didn't know that....

Impeachment is not a criminal matter, there is nothing to pardon.

I agree, but Article 2 specifically denies pardon power with regards to impeachment.

The OP is extrapolating this to anything involving impeachment, which is wrong, as opposed to anyone being impeached, which is the correct interpretation.

Roger Stone's convictions have nothing to do with what Trump was impeached for. He was impeached for Ukrainian misadventures that he undertook as Russia investigation wrapped up.

This thread is moot...though again, what the hell is wrong with our nutbag POTUS?

Roger Stone has nothing to do with the issue Trump was actually impeached for. This thread is moot.

I agree.

Stone was convicted for lying about his contacts to wikileaks and other things related to the Mueller investigation. Not the Ukraine Shakedown Scheme for which Trump was impeached.
