Scottsdale, Arizona --On Sunday September 11, 2011 a businessman, Daniel Pollack, 31, was run over by a Silver F-150 pick-up truck driven by an illegal alien who fled the scene. Pollack was killed while trying to cross the street at 1:15 a.m. and pronounced dead at the hospital.
“Daniel is the son of a valley real estate developer and shopping center owner Michael Pollack. The family is well-known for their prominent real estate business and their generosity to several charities.”
"How you hit somebody, kill somebody and speed away. I have no idea. I can't imagine somebody that would be such not only an animal, but a coward that speeds away," said Michael Pollack”

Daniel Pollack was standing in the striped median and not the crosswalk while trying to cross the street said the people at the scene. The driver didn’t stop the pickup after mowing Daniel down and raced off leaving Daniel to die in the street like a stray dog. The police did not know the identity of the driver until twelve days later.
The family put up a $ 50,000.00 cash reward and the Silent Witness program put up another $ 2,500.00 reward. An anonymous tipster then led authorities to perpetrators house in Tempe, Arizona.
The tipster provided police with the name and location of the man who ran down Daniel Pollack. He also told the police that the hit-and-run driver had a fraudulent identity and was working at the California Pizza Kitchen.
The hit-and-run driver was Cristino Torres-Romero, 33, an illegal alien living in Tempe, Az. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a death/injury collision. More charges are possible, pending review by the Maricopa County Attorney. He is being held in the Maricopa County jail. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement, (ICE) have been contacted.
The local news reported Torres-Romero knew he had hit Pollack but kept on going because he was scared.
According to a police report, “He admitted his involvement and said he had made repairs to his vehicle after the collision.
The original vehicle parts were located inside his apartment, and the damage still remaining on his vehicle was consistent with how the crash occurred, the report alleges.
He is being held without bond, as is typical when the suspect is in the country illegally.
It's unknown if Torres-Romero was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision.” Authorities have impounded his F-150 pick-up.
The Pollack Family buried Daniel on September 16, 2011
The family is deeply mourning the loss of their loved one.

We appreciate whatever privacy can be offered as we work through a day we never thought would come."

Last week we laid our son Daniel to rest. The arrest by the Scottsdale Police Department tonight cannot bring our son back, but it does bring our family’s gratitude and appreciation to Detective Rodger Paliwoda and the entire department for a job well done. They have taken a hit and run suspect off the streets and proven that the law will do right when people do wrong. Thank you to law enforcement, the public, our friends, family and everyone who has helped and provided kind words and prayers.
“Daniel was featured in Commercial Executive magazine in January and on the cover just this summer.” The publisher of the magazine said Daniel was a great guy and his death was devastating.
