If the Republican Party is gone, what is the next best hope for NON-Democrats?

When I joined USMB a few weeks ago, I really believed I was an independent voter, who saw value, on a personal level in the passage of the health care bill. The issue touchs a family member, and I am glad it passed.

Suddenly, I am under severe attack from the right, and when I defend my position, I am cursed and labeled by those who should be selling me on their point of view.

Asking a question like, "If the Republican Party is gone, what is the next best hope for NON-Democratics?" is a legitimate question. Eight years of George W. Bush, the economic collapse, the electorial loss of Republicans in 2008, and the lack of a 'Republican senior statesman," to clarify party positions should be a matter of concern to all Americans.

Now, we hear talk of a third party, and where are the 'moderate' or 'conservative' Republicans' going to go? I think we all know a one party system is not the way for America to go.

If the Republican Party is gone, what is the next best hope for NON-Democratics?

I would hope that any non-Democrat would run away from the Democratic Party as hard as they could run - that is, run like your hair was on fire! At the present time, the Republican Party is the political party of "dumb asses". However, the Democratic Party is the political party of "liberal dumb asses". The only real difference in the two parties is what they call themselves. I collectively lump all politicians into a large collection of crooks, liars and deadbeats. The higher the office, the more of a deadbeat they are.

Puerto Rico.

Watch the President and his party crucify the GOP leadership, particularly Boehner in the House, over finance reform and immigration control. John will never be Majority Leader of the House, which is a blessing for all americans of any political persuasion.

If you can get your doppelganger "Founder" to join us, you Fake Republicans will have a quorum

Puerto Rico.

Please lead the way!

Have you finally come to terms with the fact that the Democrats are the biggest racists and plantation owners as recently as LBJ?

1). What does your comment have to do with your previous comment about Puerto Rico?

2). Your racist remarks about the Democratic Party have no validation. You had your chance to verify, and could not produce a credible link. In fact what you did produce "mysteriously disappeared."

3). I have had a half dozen emails advising me to ignore you. You have no credibility on USMB. So, good luck to you.

Why don't the Libertarians stand on their own two feet, and let the Republican Party go?

they have in everything but name. sadly the grip on the nation of the two party system is hard to beat unless you are a billionairie and willing to gamble a large chuck of your wealth on an election or two

America has a long history of third party politics. The Federalists, and the Whigs had their day. So, there is a chance for a third party to emerge, especially if we can join Britain, Canada, and Australia with preferential voting. For example if you wanted to vote for Ralph Nader, but did not think he could win, you could also vote for Barack Obama to get your vote if Nader was out of the running.

Well you say libertarians need to let the Republican Party go while you post the logo of the Libertarian Party, so it would seem that many libertarians have done just that. The problem is that the system is rigged against third parties such as the Libertarian Party.

Except in those days the Federalist Party and the Whig Party were not third parties, they were one of two main parties. You can vote for Obama over Nader here in the U.S., so I'm not sure what your point was there.

Both the Federalist and Whigs became third parties. You could just as easily say the Populists or Know-nothings.

The point of alternative voting is to be able to vote Nader AND Obama. When Nader lacks enough votes to win, your vote would automatically go to Obama. This system has been used successfully for years in the UK. It allows a protest vote without throwing away your vote on someone who can not win.

No, they simply faded away. Federalists became Whigs, and Whigs became Republicans.

If I'm voting for Nader what makes you think I want my vote to go to Obama? If I wanted my vote to go to Obama I'd vote for Obama. I voted for Bob Barr in 2008, and I certainly wouldn't want my vote to have automatically gone to McCain just because Barr didn't win.

1. Puerto RQico is as good place as any for clueless Moderates or Independents who still haven't figured out that the modern Democrat Party is full fledged Marxists/Socialists/Fascist.

2. Further cementing your reputation for either dishonesty or total cluelessness, LBJ's racist comments come straight from him including his "voting against the anti-lynching bill" It's not my problem that you can't accept LBJ as nasty Southern peckerwood cracker racist

3. You have emails to tell you to ignore me? That's great! Ask your friends about LBJ against the anti-lynching bill comment

Alternative voting is an option. The Nader/Obama scenario is an example. Nobody is going to make you vote for John McCain or anyone else.
