y'all would be up in arms over arresting and imprisoning people for minor drug charges...i.e. possession.

Legalizing drugs would take a huge tax burden off of all segments of government...local, state, and federal.

That you piss an moan over the health care bill just proves what partisans you actually are...the real savings are in decriminalizing drugs.

Your first point i can agree with to an extent.

But the second point, if drugs were legal, what would liberals have left to demonized Rush Limbaugh ? .......

 I'm sure we'd find something...maybe his tendency to vacation in the DR with a big bottle of Viagra?

So states criminalizing drugs that have no redeeming value is bad.

The FDA banning medications that actually help people is good.

Quite honestly, I dont want to be lectured about taxes and spending by someone who just advocated largest spending and taxing increase in decades to fix a problem you created with massive government to begin with.

Do I look like George Bush?

My issue with drugs is not the damage they do to the individual. I am perfectly happy for other people to kill themselves if they so choose, my issue is the damage it does to society. Personally, I'd as soon see junkies dead as legalize their habit. If they were all dead, the rest of us wouldn't have to deal with the impact of their habit on us.

We could save even more if we just stopped arresting drunk drivers too. Make murder legal with a license. Hell make Robbery and burglary legal to, just tax it and make them buy a license.

So many problems solved when you do not care about illegal activity.

You're being silly. Using drugs doesn't violate someone else's civil rights like murder and theft does.

Just to clarify, are you assuming that all (or even most of) those against this monstrosity don't want drugs decriminalized?

On the contrary. I think most people do want drugs decriminalized.

IMO, this is some thing we as a group could accomplish, it would save billions of dollars and yet no one gets behind it in any meaningful way.

Why?

Until they commit crimes while high or to GET high. Dumb ASS. Even legalized DRUGS still cost money. Something a lot of drug addicts do NOT have a lot of. A LOT of crime is because of DRUG Addicts and people BUYING drugs.

Further you start off with saying one thing then change it to ALL drugs. Allowing any drugs to be legal that have no purpose other then to make someone high creates the situation where it becomes easier to claim harder drugs should be legal too. Followed by the IGNORANT claim we would be saving tax dollars by not having these turds in jail.

The crime of murder or theft is still a crime whether one is high or not.

Perhaps I should have said decriminalized not legal. Certainly it shouldn't be legal to manufacture and sell most hard drugs. But it shouldn't be a crime to use them and you shouldn't punish people if their only crime is addiction...and it is a huge waste of money.

Well, looking longer term, when we have a 'single payer' health care system, we'll all be paying for the treatment of someone else's addiction. I, for one, don't care what crap you put in your body, until it impacts on me and mine. Whether that be because I get robbed by some fucking scumbag dopehead or to pay for their addiction treatment, or to save their miserable ass when they OD and get taken to hospital.

There is no savings when drug abusers are breeding Ravi. How much is an abused/neglected child worth?

When one takes only a narrow view of drugs, there is no harm in it so decriminalization looks fine. It is only when you consider the larger societal impacts - particularly on the poor and the terminally stupid - that it becomes no quite such an easy option.

I fully support the decriminalizing of possession and consumption, and in the case of the herb people should be allowed to grow and harvest their own for personal use.

As for paying for their addictions, we pay for peoples addictions to tobacco, alcohol, and twinkies, which I'm sure costs us more of our wealth. An addict is an addict, regardless of their addiction, and that's where we need to concentrate our efforts.

Just because we already pay for one bunch of the terminally stupid, does not mean we should add more. How about I pay for me and you pay for you? That way, if you want to stuff yourself with twinkies, drink yourself into oblivion, and smoke yourself stupid, you're good to go. And I will continue to live my life the way I choose.

So.....you are in favor of NOT enforcing our laws? What's next, legalizing the 12 MILLION people who broke our laws by sneaking into our country illegally? Not pursuing companies who hire said illegals illegally? What is the end game, Ravi? If your point is to be taken seriously, then let's simply abolish all of our laws and we can save money by not having ANY police. Does that really make any sense?

We already pay for their emergency room visits and again, robbery is already a crime.
