If capitalism works why are you all getting government handouts ?

i used the first stimulus check to pay for materials to build a built-in in my house. i plan to use a second, if i get it to help pay for a new kitchen in my rental property.

i'm not a huge fan of just handing out money. i have serious doubts about, all of this. but if they are handing it out, i will spend it to contribute to the "Stimulus" effect they are going for.
Don’t be concerned. Trillions are handed out to the ultra wealthy.

that is part of my reasoning.

more and more, i am coming to believe that the debt, none of the debt, our or other governments, will really be paid off.

we are in a unsustainable situation, and there is no reason to expect anything other than some form of crash and burn.

like when bob and doug mckenizie lost control of the beer truck, on icy road.

"no use steering now".
/——/ Actually, driver training teaches us to take our foot off the brakes and steer into the skid to regain control. A simple across the board spending cut of 10% would retire the debt in a few years.

spending cuts are impossible due to unfunded entitlements.

hell, a spending freeze is impossible for the same reason.

and changing that, in a democratic system, with a greying population seems to be impossible.

hell, DISCUSSING it openly, seems to be impossible.

it seems to be an inherent flaw in the concept of the current model of the liberal nation-state, across the board.

if not worse than that. i believe that illiberal authoritarian states have similar issues, such as russia and china.
/——/ I should have been specific. A 10% cut across the board in discretionary spending. Entitlements can be trimmed by aggressively eliminating fraud and waste.

discretionary spending is not the problem. unsustainable entitlement growth is.

fraud and waste is not enough. we have pension systems that were set up when the populations were still majority freaking farmers, and based on the assumption of ever growing populations.

now, we have a declining population.

no use steering now.
/—-/ So you don’t even want to try to rein in spending. 11 Bizarre Things the U.S. Government Actually Spent Money On

correct. any effort expended on discretionary spending is worth than useless, because it creates the illusion of doing something,

when we are in a powerdive towards flame and ruin.

There seem to be double standards at work here. I do think that it is the role of government to help out when capitalism fails but so many of my fellow posters seem to be happy decrying "Venezuela" whilst gorging themselves on the government teat.

Are you all going to give the money back ?
Is it 1850 Tommy? Also....you do know that Britain was the boss for centuries. then the went socialist and their annual growth plunged like ours. The world becomes more dangerous when there is a power vacuum. We had 2 world wars between the power vacuum of Britain and the new world leader, the United States. And both nations had a lot in common and were English speaking. Imagine when China takes over. It will be a doozy. p.s....I do believe there can be a relationship between capitalism and socialist policies. It is the percentages of each that we have to get down and realize we can not solve all problems at this point in human development.
There is no need for China to "take over". You are already a socialist nation reliant on government handouts.
Dems are in the process of trying to turn the entire country into a welfare state just as idiots like you would want.

I didn't get one penny of the stimulus bills passed thus far and I won't get any of the one coming. Nor do I want or need it.

I do want those who do need it to get it.

I will say if we had a government that listened to and followed the advice of the experts this stimulus wouldn't be needed. Or at least not cost as much.

The CDC published guidelines but trump and republicans didn't follow the guidelines. So here we are in a total mess.

Taxes on the rich and big business will have to be increased soon to pay for all this. The huge loopholes the rich and business use to pay little in taxes will need to be closed. The military will need to be cut. Subsidies to big business needs to stop or at least be cut. Taxes on unearned income will also need to be increased. A tax on large stock trades will need to be imposed. In other words, get rid of conservative economics and go back to responsible economics. I know that's just a dream but I can't help chasing those windmills.

We are racking up debt that is out of control.

Yes, their god with a little g, but this was caused by abandoning God with the big G.
Can you point to a time in the last five hundred years when elite capitalists behaved as if they believed in a God?

I am trying to figure out what Christianity is to Progs? Evil capitalists or.....no technology! What about...people are just used. Socialism is written up as the best system in the world. And yet it does not work as what is told. Capitalism can be abusive to its employees. It has softened up in industrial western nations. A marriage of socialism and capitalism balance right may work. Its how it is done and we are doing it now. Perhaps some surgery on the inefficient programs and laws that affect us in a negative way would help. And promoting healing and growth in potential ways that will improve our society. All or nothing is barbaric thinking at times.

I consider it a rebate of income illegally confiscated before I even receive it. Even with a second stimulus check, the government still has several thousand dollars of my income "after" my tax refund came.
Those that have no tax liability after receiving their refund shouldn't get the money.
It’s most ironic that our government and the Fed bailout big business to the tune of trillions, yet no one says this is a disincentive to work. However, they do say this for the working class.

Republicans call the $600 unemployment boost a disincentive to work. Many experts disagree

I find it funny that people scream about 600 dollars being a disincentive to work.

Yet they don't see that the problem is that people aren't making enough money at work. It's not the problem of unemployment. The problem is people aren't being paid a living wage.

While the owners, ceos, executives and stockholders walk away with millions.

Paying people a living wage is very bad but it's great that those at the top walk away with millions.

We have to shower the filthy rich to give them incentives to do business in America but we can't make sure our people have a living wage to give them an incentive to go to work.

Is that why Democratic states where the governors shut down are seeing increases? Interesting that Trump had no say in closing or opening in those states, yet people feel the need to blame him. Cuomo killed how many elderly? Funny how NJ,
NY and Mass have 17 % of the population yet have 45% of the deaths. Crazy to me that all the protests and mainly riots in Oregon, Washington and California, produced no spike in the coronavirus, however all three states showed spiking. Yet it’s all the President’s fault. Is the spike in Australia Trumps fault?

What the hell is Tommy the idiotic brit worried about American stimulus for anyway?

Ahhh the numbers game, gotta love it.

Where's the common sense God gave us as humans ? Gone, rejected, covered up by the numbers game.

To start with, we are supposed to be managing our nation, and not the whole world or letting the whole world manage us. The game has been rigged and complicated by design, and it's really not that hard to understand other than the definitions in which man places upon it.... This is all in order to rule it for his self gratification and enrichment. Still yet I don't believe in a collective or a collective rules because to much corruption exist in that game also.

We have to have relief valves and stop measures in place, but allow individualism and liberty to thrive.

Exactly right. Thank you.

Our nation has become a failed state. If we can’t care for the vast majority of our citizens but shower the wealthy with all kinds of goodies, we are a failed state.

Merely stating this obvious fact, makes me a communist in the minds of some.

Most make way more per week than a lousy 300+600=$900.00 a week. So no your premises are all wrong. Most people want to go back to work so they can resume their better paying jobs.

The government acting as a union for the poor in this country, has been a miserable failure under Democrat administration's. Work is therapeutic, and it is helpful in many ways, but when government helps, it is detrimental in many ways just as it has been proven time and time again.

Gotta get the government out of domestic area's, and return it to it's rightful place. It's platform has been highjacked, and it is being used in a detrimental way. Now the cratzi's losing control of the government, quickly turned it's eyes towards highjacking the NFL platform along with the music platform, and the Hollywood platforms. Anything to get the trend waves started, and to get the conversations changed regardless of who it hurt in the process

Capitalism didn’t fail. It was taken hostage and hamstrung by the (mostly) Democrat Governors of numerous Ststes who shut down their entire economies, and in numerous cases still haven’t released their captives.

Capitalism works until the government shuts the economy down which means socialism doesn't work because it's maintained by the government.
Glad I could set you straight

Pretty sure it is class warfare based on envy for that one.
