There seem to be double standards at work here. I do think that it is the role of government to help out when capitalism fails but so many of my fellow posters seem to be happy decrying "Venezuela" whilst gorging themselves on the government teat.

Are you all going to give the money back ?

Capitalism has been mangled over the last 40 years, creating massive inequalities and giving rise to far more interest in socialism.

It's not capitalism's fault; it's the way it has been applied.

Is it 1850 Tommy? Also....you do know that Britain was the boss for centuries. then the went socialist and their annual growth plunged like ours. The world becomes more dangerous when there is a power vacuum. We had 2 world wars between the power vacuum of Britain and the new world leader, the United States. And both nations had a lot in common and were English speaking. Imagine when China takes over. It will be a doozy. p.s....I do believe there can be a relationship between capitalism and socialist policies. It is the percentages of each that we have to get down and realize we can not solve all problems at this point in human development.

There is no need for China to "take over". You are already a socialist nation reliant on government handouts.

What they are calling capitalism and what they are calling socialism are two sides of plutocracy. Neither are primarily concerned with the economic well being of the working class.

A number of falsehoods there.

Britain did not economically decline due to socialism. It was due to too many wars and the US is following in it’s footsteps, as all empires do.

Secondly, it is a convenient lie by the militarists to proclaim a power vacuum leads to war. They in effect are saying the US must make war to stay in power. Silly and deadly. There has been no power vacuum, but we still have lots of war.

Very true. It does seem the primary concern is enriching the ultra rich.

I consider it a rebate of income illegally confiscated before I even receive it. Even with a second stimulus check, the government still has several thousand dollars of my income "after" my tax refund came.
Those that have no tax liability after receiving their refund shouldn't get the money.

How do you know what anybody gets or desires to get in life ??? Did anyone tell you specifically that they want government hand outs beyond what's right in an emergency ??

It’s most ironic that our government and the Fed bailout big business to the tune of trillions, yet no one says this is a disincentive to work. However, they do say this for the working class.

Republicans call the $600 unemployment boost a disincentive to work. Many experts disagree

government is the one shutting down the economy.

the capitalists would all be happy to be working. some of them are literally dying from this shutdown.

it is not credible that you think this is capitalism failing. there is no way even you are that stupid.

you are lying.

Britain's rise was based on Imperialism. it's fall was due to the breakdown of imperialism, the world wars were part of that.

agreed that "power vacuum" is a lame excuse for military overreach. there has been a "power vacuum" to the north of america for quite a while, since the british empire fell, and it did not lead to war, because we never choose to invade.

Are you dumb ??? Big business employ's thousands of workers, so the bailouts are the incentive to maintain employee's, to remain stable in an emergency, and to hire in an emergency.

Individuals don't employ people, and instead use the money as an incentive to not work.

Otherwise it's like the Democrat's have (over the years), turned the federal government into an "employ/citizen union" that uses my hard earned money to call a strike against my employer or other employers who would probably hire the hold outs if the government wasn't incentivizing them to stay on strike and not work with my money.

/——/ Tommy, of course you’re confused. The Gubmint shut down the economy, not capitalism. The Gubmint decided on the stimulus checks. Since we have no choice in the matter we consider the $$$ a form of tax rebate. Capitalist want to reopen today, not when some Trump hating bureaucracy says we can.

i used the first stimulus check to pay for materials to build a built-in in my house. i plan to use a second, if i get it to help pay for a new kitchen in my rental property.

i'm not a huge fan of just handing out money. i have serious doubts about, all of this. but if they are handing it out, i will spend it to contribute to the "Stimulus" effect they are going for.

yep there it is. A justification for socialism for the rich. One would think after O’s bailouts, all Americans work see the scam.

Do you think capitalism means government bailouts for big corporations?

Don’t be concerned. Trillions are handed out to the ultra wealthy.

/——/ No, you moron. Welfare and food stamps are hand outs. Letting people keep more of their hard earned money isn’t.
