Jim Jeffries was among the last liberal Republicans. He was a true member of the party of Lincoln. Jeffords eventually left the Republican Party. The party had by that time left him.

That's the one!
He was probably kind of liberal (Mending Wall, 1946 Kings X) but I've never actually studied on it. The great thing about Vermont is that they absorb them all and mind their own business. Used to, anyway.
