Just tell me the children aren't being indoctrinated in our public schools.
Common Core is the villain in our schools as it ends up.
Just dummy down the children to be raised as mindless liberal minions.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

The Common Core teaching materials in this textbook define the Second Amendment like this:

“This amendment states that people have the right to certain weapons, providing that they register them and they have not been in prison.”

"Common Core" doesn't make textbooks.

Common Core are testing standards, not curriculums or textbooks or anything else like that.

Textbooks that have the words "Common Core" on them are made by private textbook companies who are claiming to meet the Common Core standards, not "official" textbooks that anyone is being forced to use.

The flaw in common core is not social or political but pedagogical. The students are being required to master abstract thinking at too young age for most of them.

Any political or cultural stupidity can be addressed at the district levels and state boards of education. Every parent should know who those folks are and work with them or against them on a daily basis.

The battle will be shaped by parental involvement for better or worse.

They forgot the part about militias

How dare they?

There is no requirement to register firearms. Dumb ass.

How else do we regulate our militias?

The fact that the word "militia" appears in the Second Amendment is legally insignificant.

The Constitution means whatever the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) says it means. The decisions of the SCOTUS define and therefore become part of the Constitution. In the case of DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA et al. v. HELLER, the SCOTUS ruled that being a member of a militia had nothing to do with an individual's right to keep and bear arms:

Held:

1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Pp. 2–53.

(a) The Amendment’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause. The operative clause’s text and history demonstrate that it connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms. Pp. 2–22.

However, the SCOTUS also ruled that the right to keep and bear arms was not absolute and could be subject to reasonable restrictions:

2. Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose:* For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons. Pp. 54–56.

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA v. HELLER

Conclusion: The right to keep and bear arms is a personal right which has nothing to do with membership in, or the existence of, any militia; however this right is subject to reasonable restrictions (what is considered reasonable is ultimately a matter for the courts to decide).

You would guess wrong, then.

No one is ‘rewriting’ the Second Amendment, the notion is ignorant idiocy and partisan demagoguery.

And as already correctly noted, the textbooks have nothing to do with Common Core policy.

You’re just another tedious rightwing hack trying to contrive a ‘controversy’ where none exists.

Forced or not, this shouldn't have even been available for print, Doc.

Common Core teaching standards are falsifying nothing about the 2d Amendment.

This is a non-issue.

Unrealistic student expectations are a real issue.

Ironic tedium, or tedious irony?

You decide!

Strange, a leftwing hack calling me a name when I exposed a fact.
That take on the second amendment wasn't written by a conservative, clayton.

Swing and a miss, dude.

There are "textbooks" in print that show Jesus riding dinosaurs.

If you think that textbook sucks, there's a simple answer - take it up with the company that made it.

There is no requirement to register firearms. Dumb ass.

Nor is their any prohibition against requiring a registration.

In fact, "Well-Regulated" militia would seem to indicate to me that a registration would be necessary? How can you tell who to call up for the Militia if you don't know who can show up with a gun?

And......the echo chamber claims another victim.

Dream it up.......make a blog post.....watch the 20% make it viral.......sit back and admire your creation.

Did anyone bother to look at the print at the top right corner of that supposed textbook page?

Dupes!
