So DeSantis was never really serious about going after Disney and stripping it of its self-governing status. It was all kabuki theater before the mid term elections. Promises made, promises broken.
:laughing0301:

"On Friday, Carl Quintanilla of CNBC News reported that Florida Republicans are quietly planning to reverse a key decision touted by Gov. Ron DeSantis designed to retaliate against the Walt Disney Corporation for criticizing one of his signature anti-LGBTQ laws.
Specifically, they are planning to reverse their previous move abolishing the Reedy Creek Improvement Act — a decades-old provision that allowed Disney to build Walt Disney World in the swamps outside Orlando and set up their own local government taxing district to administer the area.

This comes just weeks after DeSantis, who touted his war against Disney politically during the election campaign, was re-elected decisively — but before the repeal of the taxing district could actually take effect."

Just like his gas tax holiday. While Brian Kemp in Georgia suspended the gas tax 6 months ago, Ronda had the Florida Legislature, back in the Spring Session, specifically write the gas tax holiday to begin one month before the mid-terms, designed to end a week before Election Day, so that the public impression would be "Holy shit - gas prices just jumped from $3.19 to $3.49 overnight! Bad Democrats!!!!1!!"

And it may have worked. Nikki Fried would have hammered that. Charlie Crist did not, because he's a really shitty politician.

Explain how this is DeSantis? It says Florida GOP, not DeSantis.

Disney should dismantle everything and just leave.

Tell me you're a dumbass who doesn't understand Florida politics without telling me you're a dumbass who doesn't understand Florida politics.

Why don't you admit that you've got nothing? I wonder why you work so hard to prove that you're a far-left partisan that you would argue with a fence post.

Regardless of whether he reverses the decision or not, Disney has taken note of the error of their choices, fired the CEO, and brought back one that was successful, Why is that problem for you?

Yep! And the recently renewed Disney CEO apparently seeks to mend fences with the government of Florida, too.

Damage control by DeSantis, just in case Trump is discouraged from running or is whacked or is a no-show for some other reason, and that permits DeSantis to run in his place.

After the decision on the special person thing going against Trump, I'm feeling pretty good about Ron's chances!

The lawmakers are working on a “compromise bill” that would prevent Reedy Creek Improvement District, which covers Walt Disney World, from being dissolved. The compromise would let Disney keep Reedy Creek in place largely as it is but add some “modifications,” with state Sen. Linda Stewart (D-Orlando) suggesting that could include Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) being allowed to appoint some members of the Reedy Creek board and barring Disney from taking dramatic steps like building an airport or nuclear plant, as the Reedy Creek agreement now allows.

"Keeping Reedy Creek in place will also let lawmakers avoid a potentially hefty tax burden from being put on Florida residents. Orlando-area officials said after Reedy Creek was targeted that dissolving it could be “catastrophic” for local taxpayers near Walt Disney World, as the special district allowed Disney to directly fund things like road improvements, fire department services, and other infrastructure costs that taxpayers would now instead have to shoulder. Unless the policies governing Reedy Creek were restructured before the special district was dissolved, its dissolution would also force Orange and Osceola counties—where Walt Disney World is located—to assume the special district’s debts, which total nearly $1 billion. “I don’t think [DeSantis] understood how badly this could go for the state of Florida and the counties and the cities” when he moved to get rid of Reedy Creek, Stewart told the FT."

One of the problems we have in Florida is that the fucking Tourist Lobby owns most of our politicians. They pay really well and have buyers from both parties.

We are mostly a gun friendly state but that is why we don't have Open or Constituional Carry. The goddamn Tourist industry is afraid it may scare away a tourist or two.

It doesn't surprise me that the Legislature would sell out the state. They have been doing it for decades. Money talks.
