Atlanta's Turner Field Is Dying -- And American Sanity Is Dying With It | Will Bunch

Hypocrisy of establishment Republicans glaringly obvious in the latest parasitical move by a pro-sport franchise.

You wonder how many of these frauds are getting some sort of kickback.

the Brave's current stadium is less than 20 years old. They couldn't get 200+million in overpriced idiotic "improvements" they wanted from Atlanta so they went to a more submissive group, the Republican controlled commission of Cobb County where they will get 450 million in subsidies. The lone Democrat on the commission was the only one to act halfway responsible and voted to give the decision more time for voters to discover what a rip-off it is.

Great how they have insufficient money for teachers but plenty of cash for an unnecessary sports stadium. Awesome display of conservative values.

Establishment republicans aren't hypocrites. They love all sorts of subsidies, grants and plain old welfare handouts.

That's why there is a mounting backlash against them.

I think most get elected saying they're going to be responsible for tax dollars. When they do something like this in Cobb Co. they are being hypocrites.

It's not socialism when Republcans do it for corporations, banks, and sports stadiums. as well as reight-wing nut jobs radio shows.

Alex Jones - $6 million a year for his operations.

Hannity - $200 million from Bilderberg

Limbaugh - $400 million from Bilderberg

So where do those figures come from? ...... Who pays Alex Jones $6 million? certainly not the government. ( I kind of like some of Alex Jones, and Limbaugh can be funny)

The Stadium was a holdover from the Olympics. The Braves always had reservations about a field downtown. The 'burb is willing to build them a new stadium, with the cost to the team being less than the renovations to Turner Field. The new stadium would be closer to their largely white fan base, and it's a nightmare traffic wise getting from the northern metro atlanta burbs downtown.

BFD.

Cobb County itself is a remarkable microcosm of what happens when republicans own an electorate, everything and I mean everything gets filtered through the secretive good-ole-boy network for maximum skimming off the top. I once lived near there and the whole place is like a gated community where the brown and the poor fear to tread.

How about subsidizing our own human beings?

How can anyone be against investing in people?

WOW a far left blog writer on the far left Huffington post making unfounded allegations because he is a far left hack.

And the far left posters here are reading it without question and believing this 100%.

I think it's a good bet that the direct tax dollars collected from taxes on the team and its operations will never pay back the public investment, but there's really little way to calculate the spin off dollars. The Braves AA franchise here has spawned an outlet mall, a sams club, motels, sports bar ......

Similarly, there's one being built in Biloxi Ms with the aim of getting casino patrons out of the casinos part time to see a game and buy stuff in shops.

Studies have shown that these seeming "spin off" dollars are usually cannibalized from existing businesses. Your actually hurting existing business folks by "investing" tax dollars in these idiotic stadiums.

It cant be said enough that the establishment Republicans in Cobb county supported this idiotic 450 million subsidy of the braves.

Wait a minute here.

First of all you apparently aren't smart enough to know the difference between a subsidy and a legal tax break. Those corporations aren't getting a subsidy. They get tax breaks for investing in the development of future possible gains, they get nothing if their investment fails.

Second, You're the f*cking morons that "invest" in such stellar enterprises as Solyndra, GM and Fisker. Losing not the companies own investments but the tax dollars of American citizens.

Third, No federal money goes toward a stadium. None, zero, nada. And I personally as not a resident of Atlanta don't give a f*ck how much they spend on a baseball stadium. If they think they can come out on top with this investment have at it. If they lose their *sses...well that isn't my problem.

Fourth, None of these three situations effects helping the poor at all so you can shove that up your *ss.

And liberal ass was handed that day. And there was much rejoicing.

most of these idiotic subsizings of sports stadiums are done with tax-exempt bonds...That means that a portion of the money they save is a result of less taxes going to the federal government. It is a form of FEDERAL subsidy. Tax-exempt bonds should not be used for sport stadiums.

Its not an "investment" its a hijacking of the sheeple of Cobb co.
