The first thing that happen in any dictatorship is the government denies you certain freedoms that is a threat to it or feels that the people should not have. The government can deny any freedom it wants but lets take one slice of the freedom that such governments deny and that is the freedom of the press. When someone wants to criticize that government the government fights back by limiting that freedom. In some cases it does this by shutting down or determining rules of the proper use of the media outlet itself. This nothing more than removing the control that that person has over their own property.

It then determines how any other person can use their own property, such as the media outlet, through regulations. Every person's individual freedom is curtailed by removing the control over their property. The state determines the limits of your freedom by simply determining the limits of the use your property which means that the amount of freedom you have as an individual is directly proportional to the amount of control you have over your own property.
