You have friends or family serving overseas in “hard duty” stations and you want to send them something to make life a bit easier. Or you simply care about our military men and women and want to help. So, just what should you send them?

I totally disagree with the tobacco and porn but the others are right up there on the list – especially hot sauces! You can't imagine how Tabasco makes military meals edible.

1) Socks ( Calf length )

2) Toothpaste and toothbrush.

3) Soap

4) Snack Food

5) Magazines ( hunting - camping - fishing ) or magazines of hobbies they like.

6) A cheap and inexpensive portable / handheld shortwave radio ( For listening to the news - Like the BBC ). Internet research shortwave news frequencies, and send the list to them also - and the times of broadcast.

7) Hard tack candy and gum. Gum helps prevent the mouth from drying out on those hot days. Hard tack candy is sugars for the body.

8) Baby wipes, preferably with aloe. Great for washing the hands and arms when no water is near - before eating a meal

9) Puzzle books. Crossword, Suduku.

10. A few black and blue pens.

11. Sun block with the highest SPF you can get.

12. Chap stick.

13. Skin Lotion with aloe.

14. Fingernail clippers.

15. Sunglasses. They don't have to be expensive in case they get lost or stolen.

16. A small flashlight ( "streamlight" brand ). The ones that take camera batteries ( 3 volt ) are the best - as they have access to them for their tactical lights on their weapons.

----- Pictures and video make a person excessively homesick ---- try to avoid them. They hang the pics up and reflect on them up, so please no pictures.

Keep the care packages small. Packages checked going overseas are checked ( X - rayed ) by Customs. So send a box of goodies about once or twice a month. It will be easier on the service person, and Customs / postal service. Plus the service person is excited they got a care package - ****care packages are great morale boosters. ****
