The narrator is right ... almost everyone gets this wrong ... and I've heard some whoppers when these people try to explain tides ... pseudo-forces and all ...pretty funny ...

This video explains the correct understanding of what causes tides ... it's caused by the Moon's gravity squeezing the Earth at her limbs ...

Agree or disagree ... and if you disagree, what lame-assed excuse do you give for yourself? ...

It's the sun and the moon but mostly the gravitational pull of the moon. How the sun and moon line up to either add or subtract gravitational forces creates spring tides and neap tides. There's some centripetal forces from the earth's spin that play a small part in tides too. Oddly enough the speed of rotation changes as the tides effect it the way it affects the tides. Tidal changes also alter the earth's gravitational field and consequently satellites in orbit. Apparently nothing is as simple as it seems.
