Does anyone happen to know this one: How early can pros show up to start playing practice rounds at Augusta?

For example, let's suppose a pro who is playing in the Masters, is not playing at Houston this week. So, instead of going to Houston, he goes to Augusta on, let's say, Tuesday of the week before the Masters is due to start. Can he start playing practice rounds on that Tuesday?

For that matter, suppose a pro finds himself with two weeks blank before the Masters. Can he set up shop in Augusta and play two weeks or practice rounds prior to the start of the Masters?

I suspect they cannot do this, but I just don't know the answer.

Anyone?

Practice rounds can start tomorrow morning. Not any sooner. Tiger is already there and from what I understand has the first tee time tomorrow.

I kind of figured that - but the question came up and I wasn't sure. Thanks.

Be sure and put your picks into the thread I have started on that . . .

After we both put our posts in on this thread, I'm watching the final round of the Houston Open, and Johnny Miller says that Tiger is playing a practice round at Augusta today (Sunday).

He is a member of Augusta, so I guess he could play there anytime he wants. Traditionally, practice rounds don't start until after the previous tournament, but come to think of it, I'm not sure they stop a guy from playing the course whenever he wants if he is a member.

Didn't he play there a few weeks ago?

I think I saw where he has played there several times that past couple of weeks.

I'm not sure either but I don't think there are any rules with practicing. In the past (80's 90's) I recall a golfer talking about how he didn't play this tournament but instead went to so and so course to practice. They do it all the time, sometimes weeks before a tourney they go and practice. Then again most know all the courses so they really don't have to unless there was changes made to the course.

They'll move hole placements though the evening before the Masters start.

If I were the rest of the pro golfing community I would pay to line the galleries with porn stars, high class hookers, and women who want to be trophy wives, just to throw Tiger's game.

Pro Golf needs to go all WWF.

LOL sounds like an Adam Sandler movie.

JW, that reminded me of a time I played golf with this older couple. This man was about to hit his 20 foot putt and and in the last second to where the man was committed in striking the ball, his wife, laid down legs spread around the hole. The funny thing is the man hit his ball way to hard, it hit her thigh and up on her chest and down her shirt. LMAO.

Couple of years ago I was playing golf in Ruidoso NM, I hit my tee straight and long in the middle of the fairway. My friends all said great shot, as we started to head down the fairway to our ball, a damn Fox came running out of the tree line...I started to say oh no he better not! That fox ran to my ball, picked it up in its mouth, and took off!!!! I started to chase it screaming. That is when my friends said STOP it might be rabid.

Well, come to think of it, what would prevent a pro from playing a practice round several weeks (or several months, for that matter) prior to the start of a tournament?

Suppose a pro knows he is going to play in a tournament at Congressional the first week in October. He shows up in early September, goes into the pro shop and says he wants to play a round - what are they going to tell him, no? I think not.

But, somehow, that seems different from a pro showing up three days before the practice rounds are supposed to begin, and wanting to play practice rounds on those three days. Would that be giving him an unfair jump on the other pros who all arrive to start their practice rounds on Monday?
