How Goes the War?
By Paul Greenberg, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
October 8, 2007

Predictions about the war’s outcome have been about as steady this year as the stock market. Which trends will pan out, which won’t? Which are the true indicators, which fleeting and false? Whom to believe? Is there no one simple way to discern which way things are going, no single index of progress in the field or lack thereof?

Yes, there is. Watch which way Hillary Clinton is going on the war. Through it all, from her vote in favor of this war to her latest vow to end it, her statements have been a reliable reflection of how the war seemed to be going at any given time:

No kidding.

Like most Dems (and there are exceptions) the most important thing is gaining, and then retaining, political power. To do that, you do what you think the voters want you to do.

So, as support for the war moves, so does her position.

What rubbish. The aim of ALL political power is to retain that power. Case in point is Karl Rove and his "permanent republican majority" strategy. You're just miffied because that didn't go so well for you in the last election and looks to be worse in the upcoming one.

But to get power, the holding on to existing power is why power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely... which is why the repubs were such a nighmare for six years.

Really?
Explain why GWB and the GOP have stuck it out in Iraq, doing what they think is the right thing to do, even though tit has cost them political power.

Interesting description of Hillary, and why she should never have any more power than she has now.

Arrogance and a refusal to admit they screwed up.

I wasn't describing Hillary Clinton... ANYONE with unchecked power... see Georgie Boy's signing statements; Dickie's insistance that Saddam had something to do with 9/11... and their continued croneyism (although to be fair, the new choice for AG is a good one).

Are you so partisan that you lack a basic understanding of power? Or is it that you don't care how insane they are if they're "on your side"?

So... your statement that "The aim of ALL political power is to retain that power" is wrong -- as if that were the case, they would have admitted their arrogance and their mistake, in order to retain their power.

...which describes Hillary...

Are you so partisan that you lack a basic understanding of power?
Are you so partisan that you cannot admit that everything you're saying applies to Hillary, in spades?

Wow... a representative of the citizens representing what the citizens think?!?!?! THE SHAME!!! THE SCANDAL!!! When will she learn that the citizens she's supposed to be representing don't really matter!!! She's supposed to be the decider and do whatever the hell she wants... she's going to make a really bad President if she doesn't start learning to ignore the plebeians.

Because they believe that they are oligarchs, not elected representatives of the people.
