How big will the unemployment be when econ re-opens?

Almost 13,000 restaurants alone are permanently closed and counting due to this charade that we are "saving lives".
Ripple effect from that alone will be substantial. Good luck trying to get a loan for "non-essential" business once things get close to "normal"
Do you think if every bar and restaurant closes in this country that the economy will take a big hit............Sorry it won't. Waiters and waitresses can find something else. About 20% of bars close every 3 yrs to give you the natural biz turnaround.

It is so sad the sniffles destroyed the industry. 50% of Corona deaths are in nursing homes. 40% are pretty ill. How many of these people eat at Cracker Barrel even once a yr.

Like what........think you are beyond an immediate bounce back. Too much capital has been destroyed. States will knee jerk raise taxes to try to recover what they pissed away only making things worse.

Question is what happens in the fall when people cannot eat outside anymore? Hopefully numbers are down and a vaccine is close.

Great points. I meant in a macro sense. Restaurants will close and be bought up as demand rises.

Tragically so many people will lose everything. The laws of business are vicious and cruel. Throwing a 100 yr pandemic (Really it was a 20 yr new flu) is as cruel as it gets with a business with such thin margins.

I remember back in the 90s how every liberal I knew HATED Bill Gates. They understood him for what he is -- a robber baron who got where he is through unethical means while crushing the little guy.

Today, the fellow promotes a scheme to -- you guessed it - crush the little guy and people who mistaken call themselves liberal think he's the best thing since sliced bread.

Restaurants ate just the tip of the iceberg. This entire scheme it to place more and more economic control in the hands of fewer and fewer people. With economic control comes political control and what we ate experiencing is oligarchs flexing their muscle.

In Decline of the West, Oswald Spengler predicted the rise of the New Caesars. Our new Caesars aren't political, though. They have names like Gates and Soros and Zuckerberg.
