On Wednesday, House Democrats voted 220-210 to pass H.R. 1, the “For the People Act,” which is the most important set of voting and election reforms since the historic Voting Rights Act was adopted in 1965. These reforms, which House Democrats previously passed in 2019, face a challenging path to in the Senate given Democrats’ narrow majority and uncertainty over whether they can overcome a GOP filibuster, but their adoption is critical for preserving American democracy amid unprecedented attack by Republican extremists both in and outside Congress

All Republicans should vote for it, because we all know how important free and fair elections are to them.

HR 1 most likely will meet it's demise in the senate.

here is what Repubs are passing at the state level.
In Georgia, for example, a bill moving through the Legislature would, among other things, wipe out a day of Sunday voting frequently used by Black congregations, drastically reduce the number of drop boxes available for voters to deposit ballots and impose criminal penalties on groups that give food or water to people standing in line to vote.
People in Georgia, especially in largely Black communities, have "had to wait in extraordinarily long lines to vote, putting in an entire shift, eight hours, standing on their feet," said Nsé Ufot, chief executive of the New Georgia Project. A law that would "criminally prosecute volunteers who are providing water and snacks," she said, "is evil — evil and racist."

Provisions in the bill are unconstitutional. Of course this is "no problem" for the socialist/Marxist/communist Democrat Party.

The Democrat Party is well practiced at ignoring our Constitution.

TO HELL WITH THE DEMOCRAT PARTY!

VOTE RED!

It may not pass in the Senate, but at least the votes will be on record.

If McConnell was still SML, this bill would be tabled....

that looks to be a sensible set of proposals. You would have to be ultra cynical to raise an objection to it.

I object to almost EVERY DINGLE ITEM in that legislation. It goes in the exact OPPOSITE direction of what we need to do in order to fix this country.
But you do not want people to vote at all. Your opinion needs to be read through that filter.

Just like we see how important the US Constitution is to the left. This takes elections out of the hands of
the states and nationalizes them even as the federal government clamps down on freedoms and ignores law.

It's a gift from democrats to democrats that insures one party rule forever. Goodbye USA.

Your ignorance shines out like a lighthouse in the dark storms.

He's a Brit who lives in GB. He should go bow to the Queen.

Won't make it through the Senate and its patently Unconstitutional.

Thank you for admitting that the current voter-suppression efforts in some states are motivated by partisanship. Nobody can tell if there is "one party rule" at any time unless there is a free election in which all eligible people can vote and the votes are counted. If you are concerned that one party cannot win, look at the party and the candidates it runs, who perhaps have no appeal for some voters. Voters know that we all have to live with the results of any individual being elected to, and exercising the powers and functions of a public office.

A person who opposes making sure that as many people can vote as possible is not a patriot. This bill is definitely needed given the anti-democracy movement that we have seen recently.

The Republican Party wants only ELIGIBLE voters and their legal votes to be counted. The Democrat Party wants ALL people (including dead people, people who do not live in their voting precinct, illegal aliens, felons, foreigners, et al) to vote as many times as they can. This bill is anti-American and unconstitutional.

Show me where people are being denied the right to vote. That's what you have to do.
And it's what you cannot do.

This isn't about making sure everyone CAN vote. It's about watering down election laws so everyone, legal and not legal, alive and not alive, existent and nonexistent, vote thereby insuring democrats continue to steal elections like the 2020 presidential election in perpetuity.

This bill does not pass Constitutional muster so am I worried about it?
In a perfectly legal world no.

But in a country governed by the Roberts Supreme Court...
cheating and dishonesty can be addicting when Roberts can fuck the law like he did in the Texas
lawsuit without any ill effects at all. He might be tempted to do it again if he thinks there is a
chance of getting away with things.

He will deal with the fifteen member Supreme Court when the matter comes up.
