Hong Kong postpones elections by a year, citing coronavirus

Hong Kong is doing it. I know this has communist power player written all over it, especially as they pray for a patsy in the WH. Regardless, if done for the right reasons, it's the right move.

What are the right reasons?

Public health and protection/security of the election process.
So where is that line between creating a safe society and maintaining freedoms? If we delay elections, does that same logic provide governments with the authority to lock down society at large? Shut down certain businesses? Enforce mandatory behaviors?

Not really relevant to our situation, though. The date that the President's term of office ends is written into the Constitution, which means that when that day comes, Trump's successor becomes President. If we have the election, Trump's successor will (hopefully) be Trump himself for his second term. If we don't have the election, Nancy Pelosi will become President. This is not something that can be changed by anything less than a Constitutional amendment, so think very carefully about what you're wishing for.

YOU tell US, Sparky. We've spent months hearing that maintaining freedoms is a silly, selfish thing to worry about when the only thing we can possibly be allowed to care about is public safety, as defined by the left and the "experts" they choose to listen to.

As for whether or not delaying elections provides governments with the authority to lockdown society at large, it's irrelevant, since you already DID lock down society at large and shut down businesses and enforce mandatory behaviors. Are you trying to tell us that the supreme arrogance with which the left pronounced that they were perfectly justified and legal in doing so was just a sham, and you're ACTUALLY now looking for validation after the fact?
