George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Madison, Button Gwinett and many others of the founding fathers were also Southern men.

We had two major political parties in the late 19th century and the entire 20th century. Democrats mostly voted for segregation. Do we justify that concept by claiming that the entire democrat voting block in the South (midwest, northeast) wasn't really democrat even though they voted for democrat policies and candidates? That's freaking absurd.

Let me give you some elementary political history

In the not too distant past, there were BOTH Liberals and Conservatives in the Democratic and Republican Parties.

The DixieCrats were quite Conservative on Civil Liberties and Social Programs
Many Republicans in the North were LIBERALS like Nelson Rockefeller and Jacob Javits

Civil Rights was a regional issue that was opposed by BOTH Parties in the South and supported in the North
