Those on public assistance are usually working but don't make enough to survive without help from the government.

He tried to do something about it but he wasn't in the congress when he was president. All he could do was support it and sign legislation when it reached his desk.

The first 2 years the republicans filibustered everything that went to the senate. Pelosi passed a lot of very good bills out of the House in those first 2 years only to see them die in the Senate by republican filibuster. The republicans took control in 2011. The last thing they did in those years was anything that helped America.

As for bail outs. The bush boy bailed out Wall Street, the banks and big business in the last months of his administration. With no restrictions, very little over sight and no rules.

Obama was elected, he put some rules on the bush boy's bail out.

Obama bailed out the car companies. Those were loans that were paid back with interest. America made money on Obama's bail out.

Obama also helped those of us who aren't big business and rich by programs to save homes, continued a tax cut for those who aren't rich, his cash for clunkers, extending food assistance and infrastructure jobs. Even though the republicans fought against it.

The poor suffered because the conservatives in congress refused to help. If you look at all the legislation that was passed by Pelosi in those first 2 years, you will see legislation that actually took away tax benefits from companies that sent our jobs overseas. You would have seen legislation that increased the minimum wage and a lot more. They all went to the Senate to die from republican filibuster.

Look below the propaganda, you'll see that things aren't what you think they are and could be much better if people took the time to find truth in this swamp of lies.
