Here's Exactly How Much the Government Would Have to Spend to Make Public College Tuition-Free - Jordan Weissmann - The Atlantic
Won't happen though. The elite will make sure of that. Can't have the people getting to educated and realizing they are being screwed.

Fine with me so as long as they spend the same amount as they did before. I went to a private college, and thus, I won't be affected by the stigma of a public college run by the federal government. The more the government subsidizes college the lower the standards will be so as to accommodate the increased demand. One look at grade inflation will attest to this.

Sorry, I didn't get past the part where the article said that the government is attempting to make college affordable. If they really wanted to do that they would be truing to cram more people into an overcrowded universities, they would mandate that all college classes be available online, for free, to anyone that wanted them. That would eliminate the need for classrooms and rec centers to entertain the kids who really don't want to be there in the first place.

EVERY citizen deserves a free education, course we don't have that here and it shows in how badly our country is educated.

If its "free," chances are its crap. Indeed that is one giant wooden nickel your proposing. Any way, have you figured out the reason why so many rich students from countries with "free" education opt for Universities in the United States? I'll give you a hint, its the same reason rich people from countries with universal healthcare come here to get treated.

Most of Europe and some in S. America have free education. Countries in Europe are far more advanced in every aspect than the US is.

Finland is #1! | Scholastic.com

Finland is #1 and have FREE education, socialized medicine, very little poverty.

For residents, school lunches are free, preschool is free, college is free. “Children come to school ready to learn. They come to school healthy. That’s not a problem the United States has solved yet.”

The second reason is all students’ fluency with languages. Most students know three languages: Finnish, Swedish, and English.

The third reason is the degree of respect and trust teachers are given in Finland. Walker compared it to the status that doctors enjoy in the United States.
One of the reasons for that reverence is how hard it is to become a teacher in Finland. Only one of eight applicants to teacher education programs is accepted; each teacher has a master’s degree. “The best and the brightest want to become teachers in Finland,” says Keith Krueger, CoSN’s CEO. “In our higher education system, the bottom third of the students are becoming teachers.”

Damn..Finland has shot from top 10 of my want to move to countries to #1.

But whatever works for Finland should work for the world, don't ya know.

That's what makes socialism so appealing. One size really does fit all. Socialists have ideas so good they must impose them on you.

Okay, so what percentage of rich students from other countries opt for universities in the US compared to universities elsewhere?

What is the percentage of rich people from other coutries with universal healthcare come to the US?

Your point being what, that 5.4 million isn't scalable to 300 million? Why not? 5.4 million is already a shitload.

Alabama is 4.8 million. Do you suppose it is scalable to Alabama? California is about 38 million. Why isn't it scalable to that?

How about scalable to Alabama, then break up California into 8 sections and do each of those?

Really, you think you made some point?

Is this guy advocating for federalism? Because that's the only way your going to make this work.

Go to the most prestigious university near you, and have a look at their engineering department. Then get back to me.

Not advocating for anything. Just pointing out that the comment is meaningless. Try posting something actually relevant so we can have an intelligent discussion.

That wouldn't be comparing US universities to other world universities. It also would be counting the students that go to each.

It's called "counting".

"same reason rich people from countries " isn't counting anything. It's just a bullshit rhetorical statement with no actual value.

What would be your standard for college entry? All of the socialized higher education countries set standards. The higher the standards the better the education. What would be your entry standards?
