Has the rightwing perception of the homeless changed in recent years?

I want to know from the rightwing on this forum. Do you still see the homeless population as lazy parasites (primarily in the case of panhandling) or do you see the epidemic as the complex issue that it really is?

Some homeless created their own dilemma, some are addicts, some are the victims of circumstance. Our Church Outreach used to feed about 100 per session and now it's nearer to 200. Strange considering how the Obama supporters claim the economy is so good

What is really distressing is the number of homeless that are very young, I'm talking 15-19

I'm trying to figure out why the hell I am bringing in people from Syria while I still have people on the streets of Winnipeg starving to death and freezing? Not that I have anything against Syrians but why is my town giving houses to them when locals are freezing?

Excellent point, why are we allowing anyone in when we have Americans struggling?

It's a disgrace that in 2016 nations still have homeless people, it's something a society should be ashamed about.

You are 100% correct.

We applaud countless survivor shows where people have to live in the wilds with notjing but their wits, and then we're supposed to feel bad for people who do the needful exact same thing in streets of NYC.

I don't feel sorry for them, not at all. Most of the one I see look like they're up to something

Whomever is first in line or of greatest need.

many of the homeless in this country deserve to be put in free housing over any "refugees" just by virtue of being citizens....you help your own first, why are not all those middle eastern countries taking in those people?.....Saudi Arabia has lots of land....many muslim countries have lots of land.....just sayin....

It is distressing.

If you look at stats regarding who gives more to charity, Republicans do way more than the left. I know libs don't like discussing that, but those on the right are far more likely to step up and help people in need. That includes the homeless. Of course, libs like to be generous with other people's money, just not their own. And they are all about handing money to illegals and the lazy on top of those who really need help.

What I want to know is why we are talking about taking in more refugees and illegal immigrants when we are ignoring our homeless. There are veterans suffering from PTSD and many other people suffering from everything from mental illness to addictions. I doubt most will be helped any time soon even though we're going to foot the bill for refugee and illegal alien housing, food and medical. We've already spent millions for illegals to get Obamacare. Someone was a big liar.

Many churches step up to feed the homeless. Those mean old Christians!!! Don't see any Muslim charities. And some citizens used to make food to pass out to homeless people on the street, but the government stopped them from doing that since they couldn't inspect the food. Hell, let them starve instead of allowing generous people to offer free food. As if most restaurants even get inspected often enough to matter. Amazing. I say if a person is hungry, let them decide whether they want to wait for government bureaucrats to inspect their dinner before they eat it.

The hard part is figuring out which panhandler on the corner is legit or a scammer.
The wife and I were driving down Westheimer in Houston the other day and there sits an extremely obese women in a wheelchair talking on her cell phone, smoking a cigarette and holding a sign in the median.
Problem being the median had a seven or eight in curb all the way around it and there's absolutely noway that women rolled up on it.
Then there's the guy on I-10 who walks like he's extremely crippled dragging his foot and the whole bit,but if you look at his tennis shoes they show no unusual wear.

I've helped some homeless but I've also learned to be skeptical.

The ones that infuriate me are the ones claiming to be veterans and after talking to them for five minutes you know they never served a day in their lives. I'm a Navy brat, I know

I feel for some homeless..others not so much.
You see them standing on the corner with their sign yet across the intersection is a guy selling the newspaper.
If you're already standing on the damn corner you might as well be selling the damn paper.
And the thing that kills me? These people dont for one second think about how that looks to the people driving by and the very likely chance that they wont get a dime because of it.
I mean damn!! If you're going to panhandle at least put some thought into maximizing your take rather than throwing your laziness in the passerby's face.

My husband won't give them money, he offer to buy them a meal, when they refuse you know they are scamming. If you ever volunteer to feed them never take money with you either, that's the first rule of volunteering

We're coming thru Thunder Bay and there's this boy on the side. Both of us knew right from the get go this boy was from Newf, and my husband just looked at me and we turned around and bought him his ticket home. On the train. Where he'd be safe till he got back to his parents. Lovely child let us know he made it.

Oh boy its hard these days to try to figure out the good the bad and the ugly. You want to try to help. But some verification that I'm not pissing my money in the wind would be helpful.

I've been to Thunder Bay, when I was young my family vacationed near Sioux Lookout. There was a city, Dryden I think that had a paper mill, it smelled to high heaven

Most of Saudi Arabia and the middle east will not support a large population, you must also consider that with a few exceptions the middle east is poor.
