Trump voters will stay home if Trump runs but is defeated in the primary (which won't happen, so it hardly matters).

Trump has never won the popular vote in any election. Not in the 2016 Republican Primaries - 44%. He won many primaries with 15% of the vote but with 17 candidates, nobody did better so Trump got all of the delegates with 15% of the votes. The only reason he got up to 44% was that in later primaries, with fewer and fewer candidates, his percentages went up, but Republicans generally didn't want him.

Hillary got 3 million more votes than Trump but not the electoral college votes.

Biden won, by 7 million votes and he won the EC as well.
