Zone1 Happy Birthday to Alan Alda...............

I liked the first seasons of "MASH". It was a legitimately funny show with good characters and the juxtaposition between comedy and the brutality of war. That Is precisely what made Hooker's novels so fun to read, particularly the first one.

But, as the series wore on (running eight years longer than the actual Korean War) and Alda gained more creative control over the series. It became less funny, more preachy, self-righteous, and ham-fistedly moralistic.

Alda's career faltered after MASH was cancelled and the only decent thing he did was the film adaptation of Bernard Slade's wonder play, "Same Time, Next Year" (replacing Charles Grodin from the Broadway play).
