Hanks, Hollywood, and History

Walker (and you) should read some of the recent translations of diaries from wartime Japan. They give a somewhat different picture. The Japanese outlook was frighteningly alien to Western thinking; the Kami-Kaze pilots are perhaps the best known example. But the Japanese were no more monolithic than the USA.
At Nanking the Japanese troops got out of hand - generals lost control of their troops and atrocities were committed on a huge scale. Getting enemies addicted to dope is as old as the British Empire, which was the first large scale opium druglord - the Brits FORCED lesser nations to admit their opium into the markets, just to make a profit.

Hanks assessment is oversimplified, but so is Walker's.

Watch the pacific on HBO its been really sweet and I hope its as good as the band of brothers in the end.

A guy calls for people to not pretend the "enemy" of the day is not human and you and your fellow fools think its some kind of crime?

Maybe this fool doesnt KNOW Hanks very well.

Hanks has created a couple of series that have brought real American Heros from the second world war and made these two series about them. They take REAL people (some living and some who gave their lives) and tells their tale. He has interviewed more WWII vets than you can imagine and knows the sacrafice they made.

I really wish people would learn about things before they flap their mouths.

Tom Hanks, while promoting his new movie "Pacific" was quoted as saying this...

“Back in World War II, we viewed the Japanese as ‘yellow, slant-eyed dogs’ that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different. Does that sound familiar, by any chance, to what’s going on today?”

“The Pacific represents a war that was of racism and terror,” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”.

We did...it was a calculated propaganda device. Are you saying that what he says is untrue?

I'm saying that Hanks is suggesting our verterans are racist. Is that what you believe also?

According to Tom Hanks we wanted to annihilate them (the Japanese) because they were different from us, he then asks “does that sound familiar by any chance, to whats going on today?”

Seems he's never heard of Pearl Harbor or 911.
