Truly awesome game….
I’ve only made it to the third level thus far, but I did have to work today so
I finally went to bed about 3 am. Team Bungie spared no expense on the quality
of this game, they even went all out on the security as not to get any early
releases.

As I waited for the official second of release time with about 50 people behind me,
I noticed 2 fellas walking around in a “Launch Team” shirt. They were not
employed by the game store, they were employed by Bungie to ensure the proper
sales times were being enforced. So there I was…second in line, I had my copy
reserved and completely paid for months ago. The clerk asked me “do you want
the special edition or regular?”WHAT…..I thought you could only get the special
version through pre-order? I was wrong. Good thing I got mine last night or my
special edition might have been gone. The ride home lasted for hours, or so it
seemed. OK, OK, to the game review.

The game starts with you creating a character profile, I made one for an elite.
Then you can start a campaign or multiplayer or link to x box live. I started a
campaign, and for a few minutes of the intro, I thought I could play as an elite in a
campaign. No, you can’t. So in the intro it shows an elite equal in hero status to
Master Chief. The elite hero is in front of the counsel explaining what happened in
the first game. The counsel is very angry and the elite hero will now be punished
for heresy, scene jumps to Master Chief in transport.

This scene at first is similar to Halo 1 open. You do a very short intro to targeting
and shields, then your off to get your prize. MC is escorted to the bridge to be
honored along with Alicia Keys (JUST KIDDING) but the daughter of CPT Keys (from
Halo1) is there and she receives a medal in his honor. MC gets a medal too. Then
the shit hits the fan.Multiple covenant ships start attacking the human transports.
MC follows the crowd to a nearby weapons rack and picks up his BR55 Rifle. 36
rounds per magazine, three round burst, and zoom. Great weapon!!! at any given
time you may pick up another weapon, you may also hold down the y button
when standing over a weapon to dual wield it, only certain weapons. They are as
follows:

Covenant Plasma pistol (Grunt, and Jackal weapon)
charge burst
semi auto
just like the old one

Cov. Plasma Riffle (Elite)
420-600 rounds per minute
excellent at mid range
auto and semi
a little more beef than the old one

Cov. Needler (User varies)
30 rounds per magazine
sticks and explodes as old one did
can ricochet unpredictably
more beef than the old one

Human M6C Pistol
12 rounds per magazine
laughably weak
accuracy is a must
last resort
no more zoom

Human M7/Casesless Sub Machine Gun (SMG)
60 rounds per magazine
difficult to control
awesome spray, very effective
just sounds cool when fired

These are the only weapons that you can dual wield thus far. Some sort of special
Halo secret could (but I doubt it) change this. Along with the advantages of dual
wielding comes some disadvantages. You must reload each weapon separately,
but you can dual wield any combination of the above weapons mentioned. You
cannot throw grenades or melee attack while dual wielding. Once you switch back
to single mode, you lose the dual weapon and return to using one of the two
weapons in you possession.

The action begins here for the most part. You must scurry around the ship and
destroy the attacking covenant. You have to do some searching here so don’t sit
still too long. After the initial attack is over you must then find where they are
boarding the ship. In a short while you will hear a transport get blown away. You
are then informed that the covenant has placed a bomb on your ship, it’s heavily
guarded so you’ll know when you get to it, Plus Cortana will tell you when you’ve
found it. Now the trip there is no joyride. the ship is dark and many enemies will
confront you on the way. You will even encounter the new alien race to join the
covenant, the drones. These little bastards are a pain in the ass. They fly all
around and stick to the damn walls. You will also see a few Elites propelled by a
rocket pack. After finding the bomb and securing the ship, MC will
be reunited with Cortana, and she will once again join him in battle. Cut to movie.
MC requests permission to leave the ship so he can “Return the covenant bomb”.
I’ll leave the story there. Overall thus far the game rocks…. well worth the wait.

I’ll keep this post updated as I learn new secret stuff and goodies. Feel free to do
the same. I would love to see more participation in the game section, Hell I’d ask
to be a mod for it if it got more attention. Just getting a lot of views as of now.
Let’s kick this thing in gear.

We got it last night, too. We got there at 11:45 and there were probably 100-150 people already in line! I could imagine what the big cities looked like. Anyway, we left and came back and got it around 1.

I only played the multiplayer (it's my friend's game, and I finally forced myself to leave around 3:45), but it's pretty awesome. The levels are all huge, which can be irritating at times, but they're still cool. Dual weilding is pretty awesome in multiplayer.

The vehicles have been updated too. The ghost is much more powerful now, but if someone's coming at you with a ghost, you can hit X and jump on it and kick them off, which is awesome. Grenades seem to be a lot less powerful, which sucks because we always played with unlimited grenades and just fragged the poop out of each other.

The multiplayer is really great, but it'll take some getting used to, the handling and weapons are very different.

THIS JUST IN......
Dan my friend, you are in for a surprise!!!
Went home to play at lunch and found the most shocking event yet.
Master Chief is only in half of the game!!!
You play the other half as the Elite I spoke of above.
The campaign mode is alot shorter than Halo 1.
Seems the developers short changed all of the fans for
Xbox live play. Our game as we know it has been changed for the worst IMO.

That's sort of cool, I guess, to play as an elite.

But, yeah, I agree with you. A whole lot of the multiplayer seems really taylored to the XBox Live crowd, and since we don't have a high-speed connection, we're just kinda S.O.L. I guess I can't blame Microsoft or whoever for wanting to cater to the customers that are going to continue to give them more money on a regular basis, but it is a little disappointing.

I was never a huge fan of the campaign version to begin with, honestly. I'm a multiplayer man all the way, but I think these giant levels are probably best used online with a whole bunch of other people (or with a system link). Oh, well, I guess after a 3-year buildup, it would be almost impossible for them to make everyone happy.

Have you played Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas yet? Pretty awesome game, way better than Vice City.

That's what I hear (GTA)

Well, the let down in H2 was also because they promised so many things and
didn't follow through. They released so much that wasn't true.
List of other things wrong with H2.

The inability to host a room to strangers on xbox live.

Melee atack was reduced back down to one hit, instead of promised combos.

Took away from gameplay so they can make all the xbox live players happy with
balance issues.

The physics in halo 2 are crap compared to halo 1.

AI is not smarter (which was promised)

Health system is gone!

Limited number of maps for Multi player, unless you download them!!!

Lacks that halo feel.

grenades are thrown funny

vehicles (mostly covenant) move slower.

practicly no music, or placed in a bad spot.

ENERGY SWORD HAS BATTERY POWER!!!!!

Alot of problems, yet I still like it......... for now.
