Herschel Williams, born 02.10.23, died on June 29. He was a Marine, fought on Guam and Iwo Jima. At Iwo Jima, he burned out enemy pillboxes with a flamethrower acting alone (the rest were killed) (constantly crawling to recharge), and also repelled the bayonet attack of the Japanese who tried to stab him, with the same flamethrower.

On August 9, at the age of 103, an Italian partisan died in Rome
Mario Fiorentini, born on November 7, 1918 in an Italian-Jewish family.
