That's not how a nation works. The government collects taxes and distributes funding where it is needed.

Now having lived in both the States and Canada, we've experienced both rates of taxes. Now I do understand the Tea Partiers who don't want any more taxes especially when Government spending is so out of control.

And frankly I don't see Americans in general benefitting (sp? need more coffee)appropriately from the spending ie subsidies for rural airports to the tune of over $3,000 per ticket or stimulus spending to open a strip club .But that's not what the thread is about.

BUT what I don't understand are all the individuals who don't pay income taxes demanding that others pay more.

Make it across the board. That's eqality. Real tax equality. Oh and start to pay a goods and services tax that everyone pays. And I do mean everyone.

Pay a tax for your cab ride or for a tax to get your hair done and a tax on your purchase of a goldfish for your child or for your oscar tank. Even Conrad Black and I pay the same 5% (well in my province) tax for items or services.

BUT one more time, everyone pays.

The problem as I see it though in the America I love so dearly is that the government is so out of control on spending that it's mind boggling. And I'm not seeing the benefits to Joe Average at all.

Just debt. And bear in mind, I'm a conservative and I detest taxes. But if one demands universal health care for example, be prepared to pay.

EDIT TO ADD: Just in case people don't know, Australia actually charges a medical levy. They have a two tier health care system and the surcharge is to "encourage" people to take out private insurance. Also most Aussies pay a Medicare surcharge. So called free health care is never ever free.
