About 35 companies and academic institutions are racing to create such a vaccine, at least four of which already have candidates they have been testing in animals. The first of these – produced by Boston-based biotech firm Moderna – will enter human trials imminently.

Saying china is ahead on production of a vaccine is not a prchina position it is just a satement of opinion on who is ahead on a single experiment. In reality china should be ahead of the curve on this because they were the first to veiw the virus in current form as that is where it first spread. How ever, I am not so sure china is ahead of us on this as UNiversity of Pitsburg Doctors have come up with what they think is a vaccine. Lets hope they are right because I wanna get back to work and would rather not have a bunch of people I know die.

What is needed immediately is more likely treatments, like in antidotes for poison, that can there are. Any vaccine-test starts with critters that can die without much need for gravesides: Appropriate even now(?) Mice and rats are still more common(?)! There is an online story of a recovered person in Orange County California donating plasma. For now there is an immediate "Bingo" likely as the number of recovered persons increases.

Then, since it's a virus--more or less potent: Then maybe some of the people with no symptoms but have it: Create a mild immunity. Then maybe a stronger immunity when it happens next. Then testing identifies such people: MORE Bingo!
