Granite Cobblestone edging. PLEASE tell me if I am doing this wrong.

Hello everyone!!! We recently tore out big bushes that were dead at the bottoms. I have granite cobblestones from Detroit, Michigan roads that my father reclaimed when I was a child. Do they look good? Do you think I am doing this all wrong? I'd really appreciate any of your suggestions or critiques. Thanks in advance.

I personally would have put down an 18" wide concrete footer so that you could run a mower over the edge instead of weed whacking it. Other than that, it looks like it is going to turn out nice. Are you going to put down pavers?

Thanks for replying! I am a beginner, I don't have experience nor the extra funds to hire out for landscaping. I never thought of a concrete footer. I have just been searching for techniques to lay them down. They are all different sizes, so it makes it like a puzzle piece and I'm getting frustrated. I wasn't going to lay pavers, where are you suggesting?

Something like this sidewalk. I assume you were going to put in a walk from the door to the street, right?

The concrete footer would just be a place for your mower wheels to roll on when cutting your grass. It would bet having to take an edger or a weed whacker to finish the trimming.

That'll work just fine.
You'll have to restack them every three or four years though.
They tend to shift over time.

This is a pic of the beds needing some work after a cold winter.
Notice the stacked rock in front. Flat rocks generally stay in place better but if you have free ones I'd use what you have.
The edging in the back by the house is a good idea as well. It allows rain water from the downspouts to run off onto the driveway rather than washing out all the soil and mulch by the house.
