My favorite city in America. I was stationed there in the Navy from boot camp through A-school. My sister has been living in Escondido since 1969.
My favorite too! It's gorgeous but expensive. I didn't leave over the expense though. I'm fairly well off as a result of a very successful business venture I started with a friend, built up and sold.

We left because we homeschool, and California was getting increasingly intrusive.

So no interest in the crappy little lathe..? lol

Even my real one sits idle for years on end. Great for storing stuff in or on though.

Been working on a project for some months now ... I basically just sign my pay checks over to Harbor Freight ...

That looks like the sort of project that you would not want to trust to shoddy tools, of the sort that one can count on getting from Harbor Freight.

...wood lathe today...

Got a 25% off coupon last month and ordered this of HF's website.

Ended up at $195 + tax and $7 shipping.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I can see this becoming addictive.

Made a couple tool handles to start off...

I had a wood lathe years ago.
Got bored with it and sold it. My only advice....keep the tool rest as close to the workpiece as possible.
I learned that the hard way.

Tools that I use a lot, my rivet gun and dimpler, came from specialty stores. Clecos, drill bits, and rarely used tools like fluting pliers, I went for savings.
