Nobel Prize for Ethiopian prime minister renews scrutiny of 'premature' awards
"Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last month for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation and his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighboring Eritrea -- celebrations were short-lived."
“Protests in Ethiopia Threaten to Mar Image of Its Nobel-Winning Leader” read the headline in the New York Times. “Ethiopian activist slams ‘authoritarian’ Nobel winner Abiy Ahmed” reported the Financial Times.
"Prize or no prize, Abiy Ahmed has an uphill climb, and unlike Sirleaf, he is appointed, not elected, with the longevity and durability of his reforms dependent on the patience of the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front, and his ability to translate his ‘star power’ into popularity during next year’s national elections."
The article points out that PM Ahmed's start in Ethiopia has been a good one, but he has ACCOMPLISHED almost nothing. It appears he has been awarded the NPP for his 'POTENTIAL', which has several of the NPP Committee members nervous and second-guessing their decision.
Their concern is well warranted, as past 'Potential' recipients have given them justification for that concern.
"The criticisms of the Nobel Committee for rewarding leaders prematurely are understandable — in Liberia in 2011, in Ethiopia in 2019, and most notoriously so, in 2009, when the Nobel Peace Prize went to President Obama for his, “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” only nine months after taking office, and nominated 9 days after his inauguration."
Barry, of course, went on to pimp out the US military to Al Qaeda - who slaughtered 3,000 Americans on 9/11/01 - to help them murder a sovereign nation's leader (who was helping the Coalition fight terrorists in Northern Africa) and take over Libya for their own AND then invaded the sovereign nation of Syria without that nation's or leader's approval or request to do so.
Hopefully, for Ethiopia's...and the NPP Committee's...sake PM Ahmed won't turn out to be a 'BARRY'.
