I've escaped from the family room upstairs where Chef Ramsey is telling people to "piss off" and acting like a really bad parody of a coach. Another flight up, my daughter is reading some modern age school assigned novel about gang rape because Mark Twain is too controversial for public school.

I'm monitoring the boards and see everyone blaming the "other half" of the news media for the world's problems and the fact that we don't know how to constructively discourse in public.. NEWFLASH -- It's not the cable News network that is the main problem.

It's the general coarsening of the American culture.

Our sports figures are dissapointingly crude, undisciplined and self-centered.
Our Comedians can't do a 6 minute set without 42 bleeps.
Our schools are feigning correctness, but teachers are sexually preying on students.
Porn is free -- life is good.

We've got Jerry Springer, and Real Housewives, and Jersey Shore and a virtual cornucopia of verbal porn available during grade school study time.

I'm not whining about morals or lack of censorship. Lordy no... "The Soup" is one of my favorite shows. I can get the "best of the worst" in just 1/2 hour show.

When Ayn Rand was asked why she so often ridiculed the nascent Libertarian Party she replied it was because "they weren't judgemental enough". A cogent reminder that you can SUPPORT the liberty that allows these choices WITHOUT condoning the consumption of the sewage. And that's pretty much tolerance in a nutshell..

So give Fox and MSNBC a break. They are just pandering to the same lowered expectations that evidently -- we all love.. Now let's get back to the food fight..

I like the quirky movie "Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy". I guess the rating is G and it's a good kids movie but entertaining to adults so I watched it on a sat. dish network called IFC (independent film channel) the other night. Good thing my grand kids weren't here. The commercial was a filthy ad for a lubricated condom with a bunch of sluts giving their opinion. The coarsening of American culture.

Yup.. Nothing against condom ads. But they sell more easily with sluts.. Ever watch Idiocracy? (probably too low-brow for IFC). I think the top-rated show was "Ouch - my balls".. We're not far from that.

And I'm NOT an old fart -- and I'm not defending Mick Jagger or Jim Morrison or Archie Bunker..

I did see the movie and I thought it was a hilarious and accurate look at the not so distant future. Presidential candidate Macho Comacho might be waiting in the wings as we speak.
