CDZ Ginsburg was right , it was about population control.

“We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. And the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”

-Margaret Sanger

This is an accurate quote — minus the emphasis — taken from a private letter. Of course it is often used idiotically by anti-abortion partisans. It was talking about opening clinics to educate and make available birth control (and NOT abortion which Sanger opposed and was then strictly illegal). It did not at all imply Sanger supported efforts to “exterminate the Negro” population or anyone else. It merely showed she fully appreciated that educating, and providing Inexpensive diaphragms to, poor black women would be used by unscrupulous people. She was rightly concerned her work could be misunderstood by African-Americans, particularly African-American men. Without support from the black Churches and men like W.E.B. DuBois, she could not succeed. She did succeed in winning over both, and helped open a birth control clinic in Harlem with black doctors and a mixed staff, and African Americans were soon willing to use birth control (if it were available and affordable) just like more wealthy white middle-class women.

You keep defending this Racist POS.

Margaret Sanger is the Racist embodiment of what the Left has ALWAYS been.

I do indeed defend Margaret Sanger from your own ignorant, slanderous, ultra partisan attack, which ...

“is an unfair vituperation of a woman who believed first and foremost that every woman, rich or poor, is entitled to decide when and how many children she wants to bring into the world....

“Margaret Sanger was born poor and saw her mother die young after 11 births and seven miscarriages. As a young nurse working on Manhattan's Lower East Side, Sanger witnessed many other women die from too many pregnancies and from botched, self-inflicted abortions. She understood that birth control information was the key to saving the lives of thousands of women and mothers....

Hers was the language of W.E.B. DuBois, with whom she worked side by side to correct the enormous mortality and morbidity rates among rural black women, infants and children. This is racism? This is bigotry? On the contrary, Margaret Sanger's only cause was to help women, regardless of race or nationality, lead productive, full lives with the healthy, happy children they wanted. The tools she gave women to do this was knowledge about birth control.

“Together with Martin Luther King, W.E.B. DuBois, Eleanor Roosevelt, Shidzue Kato in Japan, Lady Dhanvanthi Rama Rau in India among many, many others, Margaret Sanger strove to make a reality her most powerful dictum of all, one which ironically, but not surprisingly, Mr. Mosher ignores: ‘Let every child be a wanted child.’”

Children who are unwanted, unloved, whose mothers are not prepared to mentally or materially raise a child, obviously have a greater tendency to fall into crime. The statistics demonstrate this. (Often such children have no fathers as they also did not want the child.) Of course that is not the reason the women’s movement fought for control over their reproductive life, any more than it is a reasonit fought for the vote. After abortions, women often have loved and wanted children later, when they are ready.

Bottom line, can't feed them don't breed them, can't accept responsibility taking care of them then be be responsible before conceiving them

It's REALLY that simple

I would like to see the reference for this ostensible quote. Remember Margaret Sanger mostly opposed abortions throughout her long life. Such “internet quotes” without specific reference are often — not always — simply fake. By the way, “AZ Quotes” is particular infamous for using FAKE quotes.

Dude, you're ill informed at the very least.

Sanger was a racist and endorsed the KKK, it's been discussed at least 20 times on here. Give it a rest

It may be that simple today for you, but it certainly wasn’t true for poor Irish women before the sale of birth control was legalized and made widely available. Poor working-class women in those days, whether in marriage or not, were regularly raped and/or forced to bear children, whether they wanted them or not.

This may be too personal a question, in which case I apologize beforehand, but have you or your female friends ever used birth control? Are you opposed to their sale? If not, you (like all of us) should show a little appreciation for the struggles and sacrifices of women like Margaret Sanger.

Thread is on Sanger... furthermore Irish women value life, the vast majority are Catholic

Now why don't you sit down and cease trying to teach me about what I am?

How's that?

And get a new screen name, Paine would have scoffed at you and your misguided thinking

WASHINGTON, March 16 — President Nixon signed a bill today creating a commission to evaluate national population growth, which he described as “explosive In every way as we head into the last third of this century.”

The chairman or the commission, he said, will be John D. Rockefeller 3d of New York. “Perhaps no person in the world,” the President said, “has been more closely or longer identified with this problem.”

Wow it appears president Nixon was one of the first presidents concerned with climate change and trying to save the earth.

.
Nixon was a disgrace all the way around.

Birth control ≠ abortion on demand.

Sanger was a fucking eugenicist ghoul.

Your own ignorance is showing. You may have discussed it “20 times” before only with ignoramuses here, not with me. I have already discussed this here and elsewhere. The Klan was one of the most powerful organizations in the country in the 1920s. Margaret Sanger never “endorsed the KKK,” she despised it, but her purpose was to reach all classes of women in all parts of the country, and that meant speaking on birth control wherever she was invited, raising the issues of women’s rights. She did once or twice openly speak before women’s auxiliaries of the KKK. She was just as willing to speak to black women who supported Marcus Garvey’s movement. She spoke to assemblies of the richest WASP women and to the poorest of every party and denomination, as she was convinced it was only in this way that she could win against the powerful Catholic Church (she was herself Irish Catholic) and other backward forces that wanted to keep women ignorant, pregnant and enslaved as mere breeding machines.

No fool, your ignorance is showing.

We have eight children, four natural and four adopted. You have no stand little man. It's really that simple.

Now again, you don't know me, you obviously condone murdering the most innocent of all and you're clueless about Sanger

Your best bet is to sit down.

Understand that, little dude...because I'm smirking, you talk.....I walk the walk
This is NOT personal. This is also the CDZ. Enough said. Please try to answer my historical points objectively. This also applies to others above who have attacked me personally.

Sigh...... I'm so tired of over morderation on here

Sanger was a racist, supported the euthanasia of unborn black children, addressed the KKK and it's documented.

Leftists think the they can fool everyone and just look stupid

Unfortunately, disingenuous history revisionist are not accepted very well in any debate format.

That's not personal .... it's just the way things are.

The abortion-rights movement did work with population controllers and borrow from their argumentative strategies. Some population controllers did have ties to the eugenic legal reform movement, and population programs at times focused on the fertility of poor, non-white individuals. Nonetheless, arguments conflating the movements for legal abortion, population control, and eugenics are misleading. Indeed, as we shall see, Zero Population Growth, Inc. (ZPG), the only major population-control organization to lobby for abortion reform before Roe, tended to focus on population control within the white American middle class.

Snip

Similar claims found favor with a broad spectrum of politicians, judges, and members of the public, and influential members in the population-control movement endorsed the repeal of abortion bans.78

The crime rate was again blamed on the blacks and less of them would seem to be ok.
You call it population control, but when it comes to abortion in the US, who is in control?

It’s the pregnant woman, isn’t it?

Yes there were many women who wanted women rights, but the higher ups wanted population control. Actually 5 republicans voted for abortion from the Supreme Court.
