India and Germany have been strategic partners since 2001.Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hannover, Germany six months ago, acted as a thrust for advancing the Indo-German connect in the global front and boosted the ongoing momentum of the Make in India campaign. The recent visit of Chancellor Merkel on Saturday Oct 3rd 2015 was to insure further boost in the bilateral trade for defense, automobiles and technology between the two countries.
The German Chancellor Angela Markel’s visit to India was after Modi's tour to Germany and there have been expectations of "path-breaking results" from the summit-level Inter-Governmental Consultations between the two leaders since. Both the leaders have been pushing for unlocking the potential and taking the ties to larger and more realistic tracks. Both leaders have agreed to enhance collaboration towards the common aim of developing climate-friendly, efficient and sustainable solutions for India's expanding energy needs.
Chancellor Markel also emphasized that India has what Germany lacks, which is a large work force, stating that her country needs skilled workers given Germany's ageing society, and this is why Germany has already eased the recruitment policy for foreign professionals. This works in the favor of both the countries and further development in the Make in India Campaign. India welcomed Germany's readiness to assist in meeting its renewable energy target under the umbrella of the Solar Partnership with 1 billion euro over the next five years.
In southern India, German company Bosch operates its largest development center outside Germany. The German electro-technical giant employs around 12,000 people in Bangalore and Coimbatore alone. On a national level, the figure is around 30,000.The firm has also built a training facility for its own needs, as it has been unable to find the skilled workers that it desperately needs. This vocational training center has become a model for the rest of India.
So, it’s safe to say that Germany and India are doing an exceptional job in maintaining the mutual relationship between the two countries. And with the help of the Make in India Campaign and the help of our fellow country we’re heading towards a more global, internationally aware and connected country.PM Modi and Chancellor Markel have agreed to work towards scheduling the next meeting of the Indo-German Joint Commission in India in 2016 to identify new areas for practical business cooperation.
