Here, there, and everywhere.
Biodynamics is a holistic approach to raising food that encompasses the practices of organic farming, yet goes beyond to embrace higher spiritual principles. In 1924 Austrian scientist, philosopher, and artist Rudolf Steiner founded the philosophy that underlies biodynamics, known as anthroposophy, which uses the term “spiritual science,” encompassing observation of natural phenomena, clear thinking, and spiritual knowledge.

A biodynamic farm is a unique organism with a spirit, each part contributing to the whole. Each farm is a self sufficient unit, a complete ecosystem where seeds, composting materials, animal feeds, and manures are obtained within, and outside inputs are kept to a minimum. The use of compost to build and keep soil healthy is key in biodynamic practice. Biodynamic farming also encompasses lunar, solar, and astrological rhythms to time soil preparation, planting, cultivation, and harvesting of crops, and application of soil and crop preparations. The astronomical biodynamic calendar serves as a guide to these rhythms.

The biodynamic calendar is complex and detailed. It is the result of more than 40 years of research into the influences of the moon, planets, and constellations. It differs from the traditional astrological calendar by about a month.

The movement and phases of the moon are central to the biodynamic calendar. Each month the moon passes through the twelve Zodiac constellations. The constellations are connected to one of four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. As the moon passes through each constellation, conditions become favorable for certain activities or the development of various plant parts.

I planted my garden once, with Rudolf Steiner principles.

There was a restaurant in the UK which had its own vegetable garden, producing enourmous cabbages by following Steiner's practice of planting by the moon phases.

I use seeds, soil, and fertilizer. They seem to produce more plants than the astrology section of the newspaper.

Steiner was something else. Not astrology.

The Waldorf school was founded on his principles.

I don't garden by the moon, but my life revolves around plants. I propagate them, grow them, sell them and hybridize them

here are a couple that I have hybridized
