Gallup Daily: Likely Voters (Traditional)

Gallup Daily election tracking reports the percentage of “likely voters” who say they would support each candidate when that group is defined based on respondents’ self-reported past voting behavior, as well as current voting intentions for the 2008 presidential election. This more tightly defined group includes about 60% of the general public, somewhat greater than the typical 50% to 55% who have turned out in recent presidential elections.

Obama 49 - McCain 43 among REGISTERED voters

I don't really see much of a difference between McCain and Obama, except for the following:

McCain - Old Guy
Obama - Black Guy

Hopefully this keen observation will be of use to others.

Ummm, the main difference is that if they die we are stuck with Biden or Palin as pres.

Or, the main diff is global perception of them and potential improvement in american sentiment around the world.

Might be the diff is just that Obama hasn't stewed in DC for very long, so he still has some roots in real america.

LOL true enough, and I guess whatever they say about biden they won't be calling him an arugula eating elitist at any rate with speling like that!

Do you know, if Obama does win this thing, the more I think about it the better I like it for several reasons. This country is finally going to realize in vivid detail what giving ALL your personal responsibility to the government will net you.

I think you have a funny idea about what Democrats believe. But assuming you were correct, I figure whatever lessons are learned won't come close to what was learned by taking the sham of Reagan's supply side voodoo economics to it's logical extreme.

My only problem is we have to clean up the mess and will get blamed by the loonies if it doesn't get cleaned up quickly enough.

I harbor no illusions jillian honestly in what the democratic agenda is as I have spent a lot of time seeing it play itself out in congress the last two years. I do think though this sudden need though to blame Reagan for todays ill's is rather interesting when we have had a democratic president in between then and now as well as more than a few democrats on the hill between then and now. So if you wish to blame anyone for the current mess we are in I would suggest you put them all into a pot stir them up republicans and democrats and poor them out into one big blame pile and you won't see much of a difference there. My earlier post was to suggest that from an economic standpoint that the next few years under and Obama Administration should be interesting given all the new social spending he wants to start and given that he will basically have a rubber stamp on the hill and a massive deficit to deal with and no way to pay it off, regardless of all the all the fluffy campaign talk. Both McCain and Obama according to the CBO will add with all their programs an additional 200 billion dollars to the debt. I know that you all have faith in him as an agent of change but if the current 110th congress is any indication of an impending Obama Administration it should be interesing to say the least.

I'm not blaming Reagan. I'm blaming the current admin and it's cronies who took his fallacious ideas to their logical, unchecked extreme.

I'm also not certain about debt. We seem to be better at managing money than the current, improvident failed administration with its failed policies. And, ultimately, this election is, and should be, a referendum on those policies which McCain has supported 90% of the time. Will there be cost? Absolutely. But we've spent the last 8 years with a president who is the only leader in HISTORY to cut taxes during wartime. I don't live on *my* credit card and I don't expect the government to. That's why taxes need to go back to where they were when Clinton was president. No one hurt because of it and the money to run things properly has to come from somewhere.

Let me agree with you on a few things jillian, the Bush Administration has proven once again what slipshod managers they are. I will also agree with you that taxes will rise for Everyone and go back to Clinton levels because not only is there a massive hole to be dug out from under, Obama is going to add to that hole and if taxes are not raise then the hole will get ever deeper. I will not agree however that it makes much sense to raise taxes during a recession on anyone as that results in an ever deeper recession and that is not just a Regean doctrine you can trace that back as far as you like. The point here is this, Obama is offering a tax cut on all those making less than 250 K a year while promising to raise taxes to Clinton era levels on all thos above that mark. What you don't see is this, the results of such a tax increase during a a recession. One that tax increase will result in increased costs for business and the so called wealthy, which will result in two things, layoffs and those costs passed on to the consumer. So while you may receive a tax cut on the front end you will pay for it on the back end in increased costs for consumer goods, transportation, etc, etc. Inflation . The other thing to consider here is this, a tax cut will be just words to those that have lost their jobs as a result of a company making a decision to downsize due to increased operating costs. Let me cite you even further examples, Obama's "windfall profits tax on oil" which is a disguised tax on oil, when you the consumer have gotten your so called tax cut and the Exxon, BP , etc etc. have gotten there big windfall tax hike you will notice when you go to the pump who is actually paying that tax. So the bottom line is it makes absolutly no sense what so ever to raise taxes when you don't reduce spending or plan on spending almost a trillion dollars more and have spent recently 1.4 trillion. It's an insane formula jillian that may sound appealing to all , but truley think about this for a moment, you know that 700 billion doallr bailout, to help people who could not manage their own damn companies , how much do you think it would have cost to insure those 47 million people without insurance? 700 Billion?

I don't see as much socialism as investment. We have let all of our programs fall into isrepair, from infrastructure to education to science to the space program to international relations,...

We used to invest in the future, set goals, ask that our citizens participate in a service of some sort (armed service or peace corps or education pay-back or something). We used to be responsible with money.

Now, for the past whatever years we have rode along on past accomplishment, running up debt, letting infrastructure fall apart, do things we can't pay for, cut education, cut space program, cut this cut that.

I do NOT see the democrat platform as a pinko commie platform. I see it as a very much needed investment in my kids' future, in this country's future. We have got to get our reputation back in the world, we have got to train up bright young innovators again, we have got to get this country off it's fat lazy ass (no disrespect) and out of the malls and off the cell phones (figuratively speaking) and back into building a future.

But if it goes the other way I'll spend my McCain/Bush permanent tax cut on more doodads for the house. that'll be OK too.

The dirty secret is that tax receipts go up when tax rates go down.

Tax receipts are up 20% under Bush.

Cut or eliminate the capital gains tax and cut the corporate tax rate to the same as Ireland and you'd have an huge economic expansion with a huge increase in tax receipts.

All you have to know about how how bad things will get with Obama as President is that Charles Rangle will continue to control the purse strings of the country.

You think things are bad now wait until inmates are really running the asylum and get more and more people dependent on government handouts.

thats the spirit.............:eusa_pray:

Well, tell me how you see it.

Cuz I remember when we used to invest, and I remember the excitement and pride following the moonshot. I remember scientists flocking here to work at our universities.

I see cranes and bridges and levies collapsing now. No scientists coming here to work, our scores in education dropping.

But hubby and I did get a nice lamp when Bush sent us a check.

Rubbish. We spend a ridiculous amount of money on education. Throwing more money at the problem is silly. Take a hatchet to spending, cut taxes and let people keep more of their money. And don't get into another frickin' war. Get the government out of our lives. Government is the problem not the solution.
