Holly, on charges of defrauding the North Carolina Medical Assistance Program (Medicaid) of over $1.4 million dollars and laundering the proceeds of her fraud with the purchase of vehicles, a residence and a vacation time share.

She got 10 years for each count of fraud

fraud is rampant in the welfare system!!example welfare queens get free housing and food stamps while their 4th or 5th new baby daddy secretly lives in the same resident !! grand parents get custody of their grand children to qualify for social sec benefits and then split the money with the children's parents while the whole time the children are still living at home with there parents!! these are just a few examples of how the tax payers are being ripped off!!............I GUESS THESE FACTS ARE RACIST!!

It was MEDICAID fraud, not Welfare fraud.

Totally different programs, ya know?

That noted, a very long prison sentence is in order for these kinds of criminals.

Medicaid fraud is, I am informed, one of the most lucrative ORGANIZED CRIME activities this nation suffers from.

I've heard estimates that it costs the US $60 BILLION annually

This should be of no surprise to anyone...Fraud and corruption are a way of life in America, it starts at the top and if you don't have the right connections and power you will get caught, and made an example of. It is only the government that can get away with fraud and corruption.

You're right. Corruption is a way of life in America. The public has been conditioned to accept that fact by the gradual introduction of PACs (Political Action Committees), which are a systematically legitimized means of distributing money to legislators (otherwise known as bribery).

"Lobbying" has become such a commonplace activity in Washington that no one pays attention to it anymore. The Halls of Congress are packed with lobbyists lined up to visit with congressmen and senators for the express purpose of offering them bribes in exchange for favorable legislation. Of course the practice is not conducted quite so directly but rather takes place via a system of bureaucratic pseudo-sterilization which makes it all very legal and, to the very naive, "above board."

This PAC scam, which has been conceived and canonized by the overwhelming approval of its beneficiaries, is one way our legislators are bribed. It amounts to a criminal practice which is hiding in plain sight. There are other ways which are much less conspicuous but which enable so many of our representatives to become multi-millionaires and one may only assume, suspect or speculate on what they are. One thing is certain, unless some radical political upheaval takes place to completely eliminate the corrupting influence of money from our government there is no question that our Country will continue to be sold one little piece at a time until there is nothing left to sell.

You see Mike thats what happens when you have to many entitlement progras. People come to think they are due and take it.

You see Mike thats what happens when you have to many entitlement programs. People come to think they are due and take it.
Specifically what "entitlement" programs are you referring to?

If you are focusing on the topic welfare fraud case, I don't see how one individual's criminal tendencies can be blamed on any specific program(s).

There is no question that fraud takes place in welfare programs. It also takes place in churches, charities and, above all, in government. But you are quite right that a great deal of fraud takes place because people are more inclined to do what they see others getting away with -- e.g., our congressional representatives. Unfortunately, so little (nothing?) is done to detect and punish corruption at the higher levels it is naive to expect deterrence at the lower levels.

Mike for evey one person that gets caught there are more who don't get caught. If there weren't so maentitlment programs there weren't be much fraud. How can you have fraud when the programs are gone?

That’s because you’re a reasonable and objective person.

In the alternate universe that is the radical right, however…

How is it a radical right issue? No one s mentioned if it's a left or right issue. But your post is very revealing as to what you think the person was that was defrauding the government.

Federal Contractor Misconduct Database

The government awards contracts to companies with histories of misconduct such as contract fraud and environmental, ethics, and labor violations. In the absence of a centralized federal database listing instances of misconduct, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is providing such data. We believe that it will lead to improved contracting decisions and public access to information about how the government spends hundreds of billions of taxpayer money each year on goods and services.
