France Navy website and France's Defense Ministry websites published this news and then deleted it shorty after.



"A series of joint naval drills between the United States and France recently didn't quite turn out the way the US, no doubt, expected. The practice scenario ended with the French nuclear submarine that was acting the part of an enemy ship "sinking" the American aircraft carrier and most of its escort."

That scenario is quite possible.

The Japanese sank everything in sight for six months in WWII in the Pacific, including American battle ships, carriers, and cruisers The IJN was clearly superior in tactics and some equipment, but cryptography, some luck, and our admiral made the Incredible Victory and the Battle of Midway.

Even if this missile isn't as capable as they claim, this future family of weapons will mean a rethinking of naval strategy. 10 years from now, large carrier battle groups are going to have a hard time operating effectively.

How far will carrier stand off distance become before their over-the-horizon capability is diminished? How higher will their already massive defensive armament become before they're spending more on defensive than offensive capability?
