On The O’Reilly Factor last night (8/16/11), guest host Laura Ingraham announced that a new Gallup poll found that African American support for President Obama has dropped “14 points from its high.” She went on to say he gets support from an “impressive 81%” before adding that “earlier in his presidency he drew an astounding 95%. So why is the president losing black voters and can he win the White House without tremendous support from the black community?” As she spoke a graphic of Obama’s head was placed over a banner saying, “Polling problems.” Only on Fox News would an approval rate of 81% be presented as a problem.

Even Ingraham seemed to acknowledge that the segment wasn’t quite what it purported to be. She said, “I don’t know how you could ever maintain a 95% approval rating but very impressive, still 81%. But there has been some movement.” So instead, she cited high unemployment and foreclosure rates among African Americans and asked, “What has President Obama done for black Americans?”

Ordinarily on Fox, President Obama is demonized as doing too much for black Americans. No Fox viewer worth his salt doubts who Obama wants to “redistribute the wealth” to. We all remember that Glenn Beck thinks Obama's a racist with a “deep-seated hatred” of white people. And who can forget that Fox has reported that Obama's African American Attorney General Eric Holder would rather allow white voters to be intimidated by black hooligans than to prosecute them. But now that the 2012 election is getting into gear, Fox has developed a sudden concern Obama's not doing enough for the black electorate.
