Former Secretary of Defense William Cohen:‭ “‬Maybe it’s time for a new‭ [‬Republican‭] ‬party.‭”

Republican,‭ ‬William Cohen served as Secretary of Defense during President Bill Clinton’s second term in office.

He is now condemning the GOP for permitting the impeached president trump to maintain his stranglehold on the party since his November defeat.

Cohen doesn’t seem to realize the knowledge and understanding the impeached president trump brought to the Republican Party.‭ ‬It is a knowledge and understanding of the GOP’s own voting base,‭ ‬and the many doors the impeached president trump’s corruption opened for the party’s future.

The blind loyalty the impeached president trump inspired in‭ ‬73+million Americans is a goal Republican political strategists have never been able to accomplish.‭ ‬It was the goal of the party’s‭ “‬Southern Strategy‭” ‬and,‭ ‬without the presidency of the impeached president trump,‭ ‬the phenomenal level success of that strategy demonstrated during the past four years could never have been reached.

Cohen objects to the impeached president trump’s lies and misinformation that inspires in his followers to commit violence,‭ ‬also,‭ ‬their willingness to die believing COVID-19‭ ‬is a hoax created by the Democrats,‭ ‬and/or that,‭ ‬the disease is real but poses little danger.‭ ‬He further objects to‭ “‬his fellow Republicans who are sycophantic toward‭” ‬the impeached president trump,‭ ‬echoing all his lies,‭ ‬misinformation,‭ ‬and promoting his many conspiracy theories.

But,‭ ‬what Cohen sees as negative,‭ ‬Republican leaders like Moscow Mitch see as the party’s newly achieved ability to conduct business openly,‭ ‬with only progressives and other‭ “‬sore losers‭” ‬objecting to the corruption that can now be seen as normal,‭ ‬even admirable by an‭ ‬ever-increasing number of Americans.

So,‭ ‬Cohen,‭ ‬get off your high horse,‭ ‬give credit to the impeached president trump for assuring‭ ‬the best days of the Republican Party are ahead.

I would expect a lot of this screaming and crying and denying in the coming months and years, WE are changing the GOP and it is now America First at home and abroad! Better get on board or get left behind. The left used to care about the working man but doesn't anymore, the right never has but does now because Trump changed the party for the better and the base loves it.

Congrats!
First day in, and you already win the Dumbest post of the year award. Good news is you have plenty of days left for someone to surpass this ignorance or you can surpass this one with an even worse case of TDS.

I used to laugh at the idea of a new political party.

Now, I 'm thinking it would at least be a fun thing to tinker with.

Who knows? With enough original efforts, It might just take off and go viral.

The current one seems determined to flush itself so I'd say the time is ripe.
.
What you say is very true, but it seems William Cohen is recommending some sort of‭ “‬renaissance‭” ‬for the Republican‭ ‬Party.

Cohen obviously understands‭ ‬a "renaissance" is often defined as a‭ “‬rebirth‭” ‬or‭ “‬revival‭”‬,‭ ‬which,‭ ‬after the four years of the impeached president trump’s influence,‭ ‬would be a big plus for the GOP.‭

Unfortunately,‭ ‬a renaissance is also described as a movement or period of vigorous artistic and intellectual activity.‭ ‬The bitter fact here is,‭ ‬and,‭ ‬as borne out by decades of history,‭ ‬when it comes to intellectual activity,‭ ‬an overwhelming majority of conservative and centrist voters that comprise the Republican Party’s base,‭ ‬are adamantly opposed.

So, if Cohen is suggesting any sort of revival of the Republican Party, to get the GOP base on board, there should be no mention of the word "intellectual". To the RWNJs, that's a four-letter word.

If the Republican party dissolved the Democrat party would too.

That's both hilariously phrased and definitely true.

I respect those in the party who are trying to rescue it from the circus, but I don't know how they do it when Trump's base controls things. I saw a piece recently with one of the Lincoln Project guys, who says they may have to go for short term pain, long term gain, and try to split the party up.

The Trumpsters are so deliriously in love with the buffoon that they don't think it would make a dent in elections. My guess is that there are more in the party who would split if there were just a decent alternative. Plus, the Democrats still haven't learned from their mistakes, and some votes may come from there.

OR, maybe this whole embarrassing mess will fade with time. It'll be interesting to watch. But we DO need two serious parties.

we needs a new party to stop the possibility that one party gains control of the government.

a 3 party system is the only way we can move forward and stop the damage that the 2 party system has done to this country

Sadly, there are many Democrats now in Congress who have sold their services to the 651 American billionaires. They join with the congressional Republicans whenever a piece of legislation that profits Big Business and screws average Americans needs a little extra help to pass.

Since most constituents of these crooked bastards pay no attention to the voting records of those they elect, these "corporate stooges" are safe, and with the political contributions from their billionaire benefactors, have plenty of money to squash any progressive Democratic challenger when election time rolls around.
