For all of you running to support Alec Baldwin, listen to this

Only you folks are caught up on this being about Baldwin. This is about responsible handling of firearms and how excusing irresponsible behavior is unacceptable. You push for double standards for your heroes, whereas I support everyone being held to the same standard.

Just wait until a cop kills an unarmed citizen and claims the department armorer handed him a gun before his shift and told him it was unloaded.

Where is the part where the Producer is responsible for running the set and establishing rules ?
Pretty obvious, even to you. As for establishing the rules, of course not, the producer is responsible for ENFORCING the rules. Stringent safety rules are already in place. Something that was completely ignored on this set.

Absolutely
The Producer is not responsible for micromanaging gun safety procedures on the set.
Neither is the actor

And this right here is why he's not going to be charged with a crime; his Director declared it a 'cold gun', and he had no reason to doubt it. Claiming he should have micro-managed literally everything on the set is just silly.
Hollywood studio procedures don't supercede New Mexico law. The only rules that apply are those legislated by the state. In this case someone pointed a gun at a person, pulled the trigger, the target died. No amount of fawning over movie stars changes that. There is a decent chance that some gutless prosecutor will ignore the law in this case, but they better hope they didn't in any other cases. Allowing movie actors to kill with impunity isn't really a good message to send.

You're a partisan idiot. Regarding Baldwin's actions...it was an accident.

On a movie set it is not uncommon for a gun to be pointed at a camera.

Except all those Hollywood procedures failed and someone died. It was not an accident, it gross negligence on the part of many people, especially the shooter.

There absolutely was gross negligence. Not so much on the part of the actor.

That same person could be held liable as a PRODUCER however

You folks want to skip over the criminal culpability and just move to civil court. Decent folks see that someone died and that requires accountability across the board.

There you go…

When the actor is handed the gun, there is a general warning that the gun is hot so that everyone on the set is aware of the weapon's status. If any adjustment is needed to the scene, the prop master or armorer takes the weapon back. As soon as the scene is done, the prop master or armorer secures the weapon. Weapons are never to be loaded with live ammunition. In fact, live ammunition should never be on the set at all.

Nowhere does it say the actor is responsible to check the gun
One wonders what Baldwin now thinks of what he said about Dick Cheney accidentally shooting someone.

Absolutely

Obviously, the actor was not trained to be a responsible gun user and should never have been allowed to even hold one.

Baldwin among many others is one of the reasons we are suffering now. Sympathy is difficult. This has been going on for many years.

The procedures did not fail, the producer failed to enforce those rules and regulations.
Of course they did, or they couldn't be so casually ignored. They are pretty useless guidelines if just anyone can ignore them and kill people. Which is precisely why the shooter is culpable.

This does not absolve him of responsibility in any way, as everyone who handles a gun is responsible for doing so safely.
In fact, according to the SAG rules, it was as much Baldwin's responsibility to check the gun as the person who handed it to him.

Accidents carry consequences - sometimes criminal.
In fact, Baldwin's act of negligence fits perfectly under the NM statute for involuntary manslaughter.
And the DA said:
“We haven’t ruled out anything,” the district attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, said in a telephone interview. “Everything at this point, including criminal charges, is on the table.”

According to the SAG safety policies and procedures, this is only allowable while on camera - that is, filming.
They were not filming.
But you know that.

There absolutely was gross negligence. Not so much on the part of the actor.
Taking a gun someone handed to you, pointing it at someone and pulling the trigger is gross negligence; the person pulling the trigger is entirely responsible for what happens after.
Baldwin should have checked the gun. SAG policy says it his responsibility to do so.
Others maye have contributed to this, but ultimately this is his fault.

This was a filmed rehearsal.

Oh NO! They might have broken a SAG RULE!

Newsflash...they broke a lot of SAG rules...like having live rounds on set.
