Footage of downtown New York City in the 1940's

Thanks for posting. I now can see what the world was like when my parents and grandparents were kids. Jay walking was common. I wonder how many pedestrians were killed each year

NYC already had a population of around 2 million at the time, and I'm guessing this is early 1940's before we got involved in WW2.

Looks like NY drivers tried to run you over back then too.

And it is still a shit hole that would still make a great nuclear test sight.

NYC in the 1940's and early 1950's was great place to be, but so were a lot of places. I would have preferred LA back then over NYC; you could get rich with a tiny little burger stand and a parking lot that cost maybe $300 to start up. Hot rods and drag racing were starting to come in style
