Food Stamps OK For Porn, Tatoos, Jewelry

Food stamps is a different program from welfare, just sayin.

It is a form or welfare or entitlement.. just because multiple departments or systems run differing aspects of entitlement programs does not make them inherently different

But you are right.. I should have stated that we should not have entitlements anyway

You can be on food stamps and not on welfare, the requirements are actually quite different but I see your point. I am ok with assistance as a tool to help people but not a life style.

I heard Michael Medved on his radio show say that 39 states have no requirements......

...and this:

“I received a notice in the mail that the Department of Human Services had not received my employment verification and therefore could not review my case until I produced another pay receipt (which I could not produce, due to the fact that I’d only worked three weeks at my new job). I had essentially given up at this point. I didn’t need an EBT card; my investigation was merely an exercise in civic welfare accountability and efficiency.

Approximately one month after I had received the first letter, another letter found its way to my mailbox from the Department of Human Services. I opened it up to find an EBT card with my name on it, instructions on how to activate and use the card, and the amount I could access on it per month — 200 dollars. Nothing followed-up my interview, other than the evidently pointless letter I received during the previous month. No one ever asked for a copy of my birth certificate or Social Security card, nor for my student identification card. I answered all of their questions truthfully, but how were they to know that I was who I said I was? Is it really this simple to obtain welfare benefits here in the United States?”

What do you make of that?

Agreed. For far too many? The 'Safety Net' has become a hammock.

Trampoline?

5. Patrick allowed bans on the use of EBT cards in establishments known for the sale of seemingly controversial items — such as tattoo parlors, gun shops, casinos, cruise ships, and adult entertainment facilities —- to stand."

I'm sorry, what are you bitching about again?

You're not serious about believing that there is any limit to the use...are you, InTheMuddle?

If so...you are exactly the voter Obama is laughing at.....er, looking for.

Part of the problem is alot of states are broke, you have to hire employees to verify these applications for food stamps and people are getting laid off left and right. States don't have the resources to verify the info anymore.

Sounds like a good system but could we do this for literally millions of people across the country?

Yes, I think we could. The beauty of it was that it was self sustaining. The beneficiaries were also the workers. There was almost no labor cost to running the system. The Mormons were known for there "Deseret Industries" which produced most of the food involved, and even canned their own goods.

The only thing that would stop states from doing the same are the greedy public employee unions.

I like it, its similar to the food pantry system we had when I was in the Military.

Was this system for the poor?

Although this did surprise me, the abuse of the EBT card did not. When 1 in 7 Americans are on food stamps, you know something is wrong. The definition of the poor and needed certainly has to be reviewed and the priorities of the families have to be recognized as out of whack.

We enable irresponsible behavior by our own legislation.

Jackson...the folks are a lot smarter than the bureaucrats....Food Stamps has become a cottage industry:

"PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A criminal swindle of the nation's $64.7 billion food stamp program is playing out at small neighborhood stores around the country, where thousands of retailers are suspected of trading deals with customers, exchanging lesser amounts of cash for their stamps.

Authorities say the stamps are then redeemed as usual by the unscrupulous merchants at face value, netting them huge profits and diverting as much as $330 million in taxpayer funds annually. But the transactions are electronically recorded and federal investigators, wise to the practice, are closely monitoring thousands of convenience stories and mom-and-pop groceries in a push to halt the fraud.

Known as food stamp trafficking, the illegal buying or selling of food stamps ..."

Poor Military families basically younger enlisted people with children, they could come by the Family Support Center and get groceries for the family, but you are only allowed a certain number of visits.

Trampoline?

In the view of those receiving it without being shamed to earn it on thier own? Trampoline is a good analogy...like kids tresspassing in someone else's yard to use it...until they get caught and arrested for trespass.

How about delivering food to those who need it, and doing a health and welfare inspection at the same time?

Almost all of the funds that I contribute to charity go to "City Meals on Wheels" here in NYC.
This charity does just what you suggest: brings food to the elderly and to shut-ins.

These folks promise that every dollar donated goes into the program, not salaries and advertising.

1) Should not have to even stipulate this.. and it shows the pitiful state our country is because it has to be stipulated
2) But we should not have welfare anyway...

You should listen to Michael Savage.... He actually worked as a "welfare caseworker" and he said pretty much this: "I was a good liberal going to school, got a job working for the government helping out the alleged 'needy' then I realized these people got more than I did and I had a job - their free apartments were better than mine, they had better furniture then I did, they were entitled to better appliances than I had, yet - I was working hard and they were doing nothing and I'm being taxed?"

Then people blame Savage for being bitter? I cant blame the guy... When you see this shit first hand it is just enraging.

1. I have often felt that food stamps should be reserved for purchases labeled as nutritious, but 'no-frills.'
No reason for those accepting 'Food Stamps' to eat better than those paying for the benefit.

2.Further, there should be government-sponsored church and other food kitchens available to any with a food stamp card.....no 'doggie bags.'

They are called 'Food Stamps" for a reason.

Wadda you think?

They really don;t eat beeter. Quicker maybe, lots of processed foods etc.

Staples. Make beneficiaries fo the plan take a basic cooking.Nutrition class and stop paying for any heavily processed foods.

Staples, Rice, Beans, lean meats and fish, veggies and fruit, Milk, flour sugar butter cheese. Forget that Freshetta pizza and those chips and that Soda etc.

Though it is my understanding that only a small amount of the overall EBT or Food Stamp monies can be used for anything other than food . . .unless there is a scam involved which sadly seems rife in the system.

My 2 cents.

Your '2 cents' is worth more than 2 cents!

"Ironically, the one demonstrable nutritional difference between the poor and others is that low-income women tend to be overweight more often than others. That may not seem like much to make a political issue, but politicians and the media have created hysteria over less.

The political left has turned obesity among low-income individuals into an argument that low-income people cannot afford nutritious food, and so have to resort to burgers and fries, pizzas and the like, which are more fattening and less healthful. But this attempt to salvage something from the “hunger in America” hoax collapses like a house of cards when you stop and think about it.

Burgers, pizzas and the like cost more than food that you can buy at a store and cook yourself. If you can afford junk food, you can certainly afford healthier food. An article in the New York Times of Sept. 25 by Mark Bittman showed that you can cook a meal for four at half the cost of a meal from a burger restaurant. So far, so good. But then Bittman says that the problem is “to get people to see cooking as a joy.” For this, he says, “we need action both cultural and political.” In other words, the nanny state to the rescue!"

Cooking is a lost art in this country. Not just among the poor, but in middle class and wealthy families. Everything is takeout, preprocessed or microwaveable.

How many women know how to bake bread? How many can make a Thanksgiving dinner for their family? I see wealthy people with $100,000 kitchens with restaurant quality appliances who can't fry an egg

I don't cook everyday but I can make a hell of a Thanksgiving Turkey, I love making it with all the fixings yams, mac and cheese, collard greens, black eyed peas, mashed potatoes, gravy etc. I get up early to get started on it.

Glenn Beck is working on such a system to fill the needs of 12 Cities...privately.

Glenn...is a Mormon...

So the system is still in place, then?

I think it makes the recipients feel better about themselves as they aren't just getting a hand out, they are helping to keep the whole thing running.

It is as far as his venture of Mercury One and "Resotring Love".

Restoring Love Food Drive: 11 trucks filled on the 1st night!

Glenn’s goal was to fill eleven tractor trailers with food and send them to eleven cities where they are in need and where regulations have restrained donations: Detroit, MI; Navajo Reservation, NM; New Orleans, LA; Las Vegas, NV; San Joaquin Valley County, CA; New York, NY; Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; Dallas, TX; Houston, TX; Wilmington, OH.

He added Atlanta Georgia just today with the effort.

ALL of this is private enterprise that I support.

There is no true poverty in the United States of America.

This is patently false. I have seen it. A lot of it.

If the government was not providing assistance to the poor, there would be so many of them evident that even you would not be able to avoid seeing them.

The irony is that because the government is providing assistance in the way of heat, food, and shelter that you can sit there and claim there are no poor because you don't see anyone without heat, food, or shelter!

I know you've bought the hype....but I can document 'poor' folks who have more than you have....at least more than I have.

Wise up.

"Why are such people called “poor”? Because they meet the arbitrary criteria established by Washington bureaucrats. Depending on what criteria are used, you can have as much official poverty as you want, regardless of whether it bears any relationship to reality.

Those who believe in an expansive, nanny state government need a large number of people in “poverty” to justify their programs. They also need a large number of people dependent on government to provide the votes needed to keep the big nanny state going.
Politicians, welfare state bureaucrats and others have incentives to create or perpetuate hoaxes, whether about poverty in general or hunger in particular. The high cost to taxpayers is exceeded by the even higher cost of lost opportunities for fulfillment in their lives by those who succumb to the lure of a stagnant life of dependency."

The poor have so much already provided that there is little left to spend money on and they do have a right to happiness and pocket money it's part of the dignity that we must also pay for.

The children in poor families get 3 meals a day at school. Mom may buy cookies, popcorn and chips for at home snacks. If mom feels like cooking, the local pantry or food bank will provide food free. Food stamps no longer mean "food". It means mad money. If you listen to democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, using food money for manicures, tattoos, and porn is still spending money and it still stimulates the economy.
